YukoFurry Posted July 24, 2024 Report Posted July 24, 2024 I've been starting a new playthrough of Vintage Story so I am not a new Player to this game. From my last playthrough I vividly remember there to be quite some surface tin, less than copper but still quite easy to find. However on this playthrough I seem to have no luck. I spent the better part of my day today (not ingame day) just trying to find tin but haven't found a single bit of tin. Wen't ahead and upped the chances as high as possibly in the config and used the /db prune command to nuke all unused chunks. My playthrough is not unmodded but no mod I use states anything about changing things with the ore. Since I am using the river mod the only thing I did change about the world is changing landcover to 50% and landcover scale to 300%. Am I delusional, has something been changed and surface tin is no more or what am I doing wrong?

I would try to generate a new world with the new settings and see if it changes anything, rather than tampering with the old world's config and trying to regenerate chunks. Poke around a bit(popping into creative if necessary to speed things up)--if there's plenty of surface tin with the higher spawn settings, then something was probably going wrong when you were trying to change configs and regenerate chunks in the old world. If there's still no surface tin, then I would suspect that a mod might be causing an issue somehow. In which case, I would disable all the mods and test a new world with your preferred settings. If that solves it, then add your mods back in one at a time and keep testing on new worlds to make sure things are spawning as they should.
Thorfinn Posted July 24, 2024 Report Posted July 24, 2024 I generally play Wilderness, so no surface tin, but even when I play Standard, tin is hit or miss. Some worlds seem to have several, but most have none that I've been able to find. I even tweaked things to make surface tin bits glaringly obvious by giving it an invalid texture, to no avail. It's just not there.
Grummsh Posted July 25, 2024 Report Posted July 25, 2024 (edited) I think I might know what the problem is - the type of rock strata of the surface layer. You can check the "ore deposits" section of the VS wiki https://wiki.vintagestory.at/index.php/Ore_Deposits And under ore generation - shallow ores check Cassiterite (this is the tin) - there you see it can only spawn in certain rock types - in this case its either: phyllite, slate, adesite, basalt, granite and peridotite. So if in the area that you spawned in or travelled the surface rock layer (the one that is directly under the dirt when you dig down) is something else that the ones metnioned above like for example conglomerate, sandstone, etc - you WONT find any surface tin around - as cassiterite wont spawn in it. I hope that helps Edited July 25, 2024 by Grummsh 3 1
Solution YukoFurry Posted August 5, 2024 Author Solution Report Posted August 5, 2024 Well I have gone ahead and bit into the sour apple and just started over with the same seed but different settings. Hurt a little but it is what it is.
