Can't pick up any items on singleplayer?

hey guys, i've been playing for close up to 60 hours in my world. its almost end winter, and i did some charcoal burns.

i tried to dig up the dirt and the charcoal underneath, some snow fell down that was laying on top of the dirt blocks, and now i cant pick up anyhing anymore in my world.

the snow just dances around on the ground for some reason. did anyone have this problem? 

note that im playing on 1.20

Welcome to the forums! Have you tried logging out of the world and logging back in? It sounds like a block derped out and the game hasn't quite figured out what to do with itself; a relog usually fixes it.

It's also worth noting that while 1.20 is close to release, it is still unstable in it's current form.

Hi thanks for the reply! Yeah i tried that several times. Looks like im stuck with this error for a while. Fingers crossed it gets fixed after the full release of 1.20 . I got so far already. I would love to continue with this again

Had the same issue around the 30ish hour mark. Character wouldn't pick up anything that wasn't in my inventory already. It triggered (I believe) when I broke a block that let some water flow and a gravel block was just dancing around for a minute. After a few restarts and deleting all two of my mods I just gave up and made a new world. Playing the latest 1.20 build.

That's kind of weird. Had something similar happen when I was chopping trees, and bunch of log sections were bouncing around. No idea if it was necessary or not, but what worked for me was Ctrl-Q all my hotbar, then set down all my backpacks with everything in them, go back and deal with the bouncers as best I could, then pick everything back up and go home. By the time I got back, everything had despawned. Not sure if what I did had any effect or not.

just had that problem in 1.20 rc6.

it's winter with snow everywhere, I opened my charcoal pit and snow fell on the charcoal layers inside (which are almost never a full block).

The snow could not settle and bounced up and down after that the game prevented me from picking up anything.

I resolved it by removing the charcoal (switched to creative for this but it was probably not necessary) beneath the unsettled snow so that it could fall on a plain block.

After that I started picking up dropped items/blocks normally.
