yAn451 Posted February 8, 2025 Report Posted February 8, 2025 I was exploring random worlds while messing with world generation options and stumbled across a "Halite obelisk", upon further inspection I found out that most of the chunk is made up of halite. I don't think this is a common occurance or if it's even normal for this to happen lol. Game version: 1.20.3 Stable Seed: 1804598796 Coords: -831, 147, 692
Zippy Wonderdust Posted February 8, 2025 Report Posted February 8, 2025 If memory serves, halite contains salt, yes? Halite can form as massive intrusions or pillars, both in game and in the real world. It's totally a thing that the game is intentionally coded to do. The pillar should go all the way down to y=0. If it is wider than it is tall it is usually called a "salt dome" in real life, and you can often find deposits of oil or methane beneath them; thankfully not in-game, as I have no interest in simulating the industrial age! 2
Michael Gates Posted February 8, 2025 Report Posted February 8, 2025 I've seen salt pillars in cliff sides a couple times, but I don't think it's supposed to stick up by itself like that, no.Worldgen should really poison the land for a couple hundred squares around when you get salt out in the open like that

And yeah, it nearly goes down to y level 0, there is a slight bit of granite under the whole cluster, but it would seem to be what you said, a salt dome.

Hopefully one day, there will be oil in the game as well
