Greenhouse stuff, skylight, rooms questions.

Can anyone explain a few mechanics of skylight to me in a few situations? I tried making a 14x14x14 greenhouse and it actually was somewhat working for like the first 2 floors, but by the time I finished 3 floors and was working on the 4th something stopped working.

Obviously a solid roof or something would decrease skylight and whatnot, but what if its a layer like 50 meters up? Will the skylight of things below be affected? If there is a point when skylight isn't affected by something directly above it, when would that be? (see pic 1).

If the roof is solid soil but the 'walls' are solid glass, is there like 1-2 horizontal spaces where skylight isn't affected or is the skylight already cooked for anything inside (See pic 2). I also tried using glass slabs where the water would be but I'm already assuming skylight decreases through the water so I'm not being very hopeful there.

When I'm standing on a tile and try to highlight rooms, apparently the spot I'm on counts as a room? I can get the whole greenhouse to be a room if I'm hanging on a ladder nearby, but does walking around in my greenhouse affect room detection and thus ruin the greenhouse while I'm there? For some reason I seem to generate a lot of 1x1x1 rooms in here and I'm not sure if that's some kind of bug or I did something weird to my greenhouse.

Yes, any structure/solid surface above the greenhouse, even if it's 100 blocks up, and that is directly above the greenhouse, will block the sunlight and thus the effect. I've had to move my greenhouses several times because I built something on a higher elevation that stretched over the greenhouse.

interesting design, stacking.  the wiki states that 50% or more must be glass on the roof.  i wonder if a checkerboard glass layout as a roof might work. light doesn't bend, so it would be shafts of light from top to bottom between each floor.  (note, for every 10 blocks of elevation, 1deg of temp is lowered.)

and welcome to the forum @Arythazin

Ok I’ll take the answer for the skylight part, but is the 1x1x1 room thing just a part of the game and doesn’t affect the greenhouse effect? Does anyone else get a bunch of 1x1x1 rooms when they walk through their greenhouse?

Edit: Now I'm back to the original problem I had where some squares get the greenhouse effect and some don't... and this seems to change for said squares every so often. Is there a reason some squares will lose/gain the greenhouse effect despite NO changes to the room, other than me walking around maybe?

diving into creative, this is what i'm getting, the whole structure is seen as a valid room.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd floor are registering 5%

so, idk if the checkerboard pattern helps or not (stopped testing after this build)...
