animal husbandry Do animals need light to not despawn?

I read on the wiki that animals you wanna keep for farming need to have light near them or they despawn.

Is that true? Im asking cause none of the video guides I saw mentioned needing lights to prevent despawning. Or is that a relativly new feature and is just not covered by older guides?

I wont say that they will despawn, but they do however die if there is insufficient light.

If you are putting them in a barn, yes, you need artificial light. If you have them pastured, no. But you may still want artificial light to keep the wolves and bears and foxes from spawning in your pasture. Same rules, I'm pretty sure -- no tiles more than 6 from a torch, 3 from an oil lamp, 10 from a lantern.

This is the end result when an animal hasnt enough light. So if you plan to keep them in an enclosed barn, make sure the artificial lights are enough.
