cjc813 Posted April 13, 2025 Report Posted April 13, 2025 (edited) And these are the folks who are complaining about drifters throwing rocks. Those rocks do literally 1 damage. What are you doing? Walking around in the middle of the night with no armor and 25% health? Maybe don't do that? Edited April 13, 2025 by cjc813 4

To say, "this mechanic is broken because it doesn't work on a laggy connection" is kinda silly. At that point, it's not a Bowtorn problem, it's a problem with your setup. That'd be like me saying, "omg, Anego, fix your worldgen" just because my potato of a laptop doesn't have enough memory to generate chunks faster than I run. The problem's not with the game, it's with my setup. I'm not complaining! I know it's a server issue, haha. I was just saying that depending on setup, they can become super accurate snipers.

But yeah I do get what you're saying. If you play singleplayer, they aren't too tough to dodge unless there's a large group of them. Edited April 15, 2025 by ifoz

Maybe make the red flash on the screen brighter to one side or something, and make it fade out slightly slower.

A lot of other games use something similar and it would be a nice QoL feature to add, might make people complain a tiny bit less about bowtorn
badgerson Posted April 16, 2025 Report Posted April 16, 2025 I like the bowtorns, but I do use the mod Bowtorn Balance to make them a little easier. My favorite strategy is just to run at them menacingly with a falx, when they stop shooting and flee it gives me great joy.

With armor their little poke attack does little to no damage it's just the easiest way to kill them, Must be terrifying for that poor bowtorn watching a seraph with full iron plate walk towards them with malicious intent
TemplarGreen Posted April 17, 2025 Report Posted April 17, 2025 I muste admit, they doth present quite a challenge to mein self- trulee, it can be quite the annoyance to be assailed from a far distance by a foe that lieth far beyond yon vision permits! Nevertheless, they are a fair foe, and I appreciate that they flee like wretches when approached. 1
Lanceleoghauni Posted April 19, 2025 Report Posted April 19, 2025 People complaining about bowtorn is always so strange to me. They... Stop moving to aim. THEY STAND PERFECTLY STILL TO SHOOT YOU. SHOOT THEM BACK. 1 1

Seriously, these ruin the game. Instead of a rain of rocks we now have these damnable arrows at levels that are just meme-able. They NEVER spawn singularly, they spawn nearly without end even on rift activity being low, and they have the highest spawn rate out of anything else. Bowtorn spawns populate at least 90% of all mobs. So nearly every moment you're in a cave, most of the time in a field, or anywhere without lots of trees blocking line of sight, you're being shot at. And then you have high activity or a temporal storm; just forget it at those times. NOTHING but bowtorn everywhere, in groups of 6 or more! It's like the game's been made to forget other mobs even exist. I think I've seen a total of just 6 or 7 shivers so far... If their spawn rates were lower than the other enemies as a supplement to them this would be a different story. It would make them a good part of a group to take out; covering the other mobs as they rush you. As it is... We're just in front of a firing squad all the time. i think they add a nice bit of diversity, since after you get any armor (even wooden lamellar) the rock throw that drifters does the same damage as a light breeze. Also taking into consideration that all you have to do to counter a bowtorn is run up to them and they run away. (plus drifters are really slow, but if its shivers that are chasing you i can see how its a different story). Bowtorns can also be kinda cc locked with bow spam aswell. But with all said i can definitly see how a mob of them can be a real pain to deal with.
TamTroll Posted April 20, 2025 Report Posted April 20, 2025 I've literally only seen like two of these guys, both only one at a time. I WAS travelling at the time, so perhaps they just didn't have time to build up. i might see more now that I'm back at my base though, not impossible.
Obison Posted April 20, 2025 Report Posted April 20, 2025 See no problems like you are, and definetly do not feel the same. In fact. The game could use more mobs imo, but there AI, spawns, could probably use some attention.
LoveWyrm Posted May 19, 2025 Report Posted May 19, 2025 The emotional damage they do is worse than the numerical gameplay damage they do. Just let me out...I fenced the area off, stop shooting me, you're not even hitting me, I just want to put something in the pit kiln, damnit. They are more akin to some sort of input debuff than anything. Oh you want to walk somewhere around your perimeter? Well now you gotta walk there all weavy. I also don't like their sounds. Combine that with the Hayao Miyazaki saddening¹shivers and ...it just feels a bit bad. ¹(I would assume he would be saddened by them) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EvnKYOuvWo
Theyflower Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 I was trying to make a storage vessel out of clay in a half built dirt shack at night and got ganked by a squad of three hydralisks. 0/10
