Agreed. The new mechanics are pretty neat overall, but the time it takes a cutting to mature is pretty ridiculous. Classic Anego. They tend to overtune things upon release and relax them with later patches. My gut says they'll probably tweak it in the coming months.

I don't entirely agree that spear nerf == hunter nerf. All classes used spears. That said, Hunter spear damage was a bit OP in the before times, tbh. Overall, I'd be ok with the spear changes if they didn't take so damn long to aim. Getting a second shot off on a running target is pretty much not worth trying. Spears got nerfed way too hard. They're on the verge of not being worth using. Imo, arrow damage should have been buffed slightly, spear range and damage should have been nerfed as it was, and spear aiming time should have stayed about the same. That would have let spears be a good mid range option while having arrows be more viable long range. I haven't fought T4+ mobs with Hunter since the update, but I bet it's not terribly fun.

That's actually a pretty neat mod idea. Lanterns take fall damage.

I think more nuanced hunting mechanics would fit VS best. I think it would make the most sense for animals to run out of stamina if chased for too long and also slow down/bleed out when wounded. Barring that, though, reducing the HP of most of the animals would at least make them worth hunting. As it stands, it's not worth the effort of hunting animals that run instead of attack.

Hunting and animal HP is pretty unbalanced overall, imo. It shouldn't require a recurve bow and metal arrowheads to 1 shot a rabbit. 3+ iron spears and this moose is still fine? That doesn't seem right.

Anyone getting seasonal depression during the winter months

my favorite thing is when i'm playing VS during RL winter. my seraph and i get to have seasonal depression simultaneously. very immersive -
Personally, I'd rather pump the bellows until it's bright yellow hot than stop in the middle of smithing for a reheat. I wonder how doing that compares to 1.21 and before in terms of fuel cost and time. I know you'd have to wait a little bit for things to get yellow in the before times, and it felt like the forge would absolutely devour charcoal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like in terms of time and charcoal investment, it's probably not *too* much different nowadays? At least at small scales. Difference here is that you used to be able to light 36 forges, each with an iron bloom, and have your 12-sail, 4-helve hammer setup tear thru them in minutes. I do kinda miss doing that, to be fair.

Anego should focus development on core features that will actually get the game out of early access (e.g. rivers, the story, temporal storms) before focusing on literally anything else. I know it's subjective, to an extent, and that the game will never be "done," but they could still finish the base game (whatever they decide that is) and then iterate from there.

Lol, damn, dude. Shots fired.

I've come around on the whole rework. Now that 20 or so bushes have come in, I've got a pretty consistent source of fruit sat. I do think that time to mature should be tweaked, and I'd like to be able to shear them and make them look neater.

Rush matting really ties the room together.

@MKMoose does this mean, to your knowledge, that i can dig a pond and be able to fish out of it? playing on TOPS, so worldgen has been 1.22 from the start

I'd add this idea to the list of things that would make for a neat mod, but I don't think should be vanilla. The whole point of the first pickaxe being copper is that you have to work for it, and it feels special when you finally get everything put together and can mine in earnest. That's really the first big moment in the game where you put in a bunch of effort and get a big payoff. Similar to the anvil/saw as well. I've restarted dozens, if not hundreds, of times across thousands of hours, and that first pick and hammer still feels special, even now. I don't think taking away from that experience would improve the game.

Quick question... what the fuck? Even with QP's tools, you're... that's... that's unbelievable.

You've been busy. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing. And welcome to the forums.

@Lupus gets it those images look amazing!

1000% this. The extra detail on the new logo is better, but the brightness of the color palette doesn't match the feel of the game. I think the perfect logo would have the more muted color palette of the original, but with the outlines and detailing of the new one.

1000% Iirc, bowl lamps didn't have collision.

I honestly like the idea, as long as each block took less than a second to place. If it were a mod, I'd at least check it out. I do agree that it probably shouldn't be a vanilla feature.

I'm sorry, pal. That really sucks. As you're seeing, we've all been there. I had a really neat seed one time, and was building a cabin in the woods. It was a really nice, scenic situation and I was having a good time. Long story short, I started pottery and burned my house and the forest down. At that point I just deleted the world.

Yeah, I find myself relying on mushrooms and cattail roots a lot more now in early game. Mid to late game, berries seem more reliable than trees, tho. So they may be worth planting. Granted, I play exclusively MP servers that run 24/7, so your milage may vary.

I Just Downloaded 1.22. What do I need to do right this minute?

The opening is still pretty standard. Shelter, farming, and pottery. If you see a bear, try to snag his ass and wax the hide. The pelt is useful for a crude bellows. For regular bellows, you'll need leather and nails. You can smith up thru iron without bellows, but it definitely makes it easier to have one. When planning your windmills, you'll probably want each rotor 30 blocks apart. I've heard conflicting distances, so don't quote me on that part, but rotors do need to be spaced out now or they suffer a 50% penalty. Edit: I just realized you're probably not talking about starting a new world. Leaving this anyway in case it helps anyone else. -
i think the bushes are downright ugly, and the cuttings take *way* too long to grow. i like some of the ideas involved, but the above two things kinda ruin the berry experience for me.

TLs are pretty key in multiplayer, where folks tend to spread out. A network of known TLs can cut travel distance by orders of magnitude. If traversing a large forever world in single player is important to you, by all means, set them up. Also, if you'd like to explore what's on the other side for funzies, then do it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

Holy cow, this is impressive. I wish this could be pinned. You're doing the Lord's Dave's work, son.
