When i first saw these i thought they would allow me to make the roof steeper or flatter, but no... they don't go to certain spaces on the black to make them work. I don't know what to do with these roof shapes now.

I imagine what your intending is a sort of peaked roof maybe? I mean you could maybe add them on as embellishments but they aren't going to give you that high-ceiling gap you might see in say, a Yurt. I am interested in what you were visualizing.

I can't speak for other people, but I expected those blocks to enable a 22.5° slanted roof (2 blocks forward and 1 block up). unfortunately, the existing blocks only allow for a 45° angle (1 block forward and 1 block up). I've attached two screenshots. Those depict some ideas as to how to achieve a half slanted roof (2 forward 1 up)

You know what would be a really good idea? Allowing roof pieces to be rotated by the wrench/spanner. Utterly frustrating, and somewhat odd, that roof tiles cannot be. Especially considering how easy it is misplace them.

There's a mod for this that I don't play without: https://mods.vintagestory.at/wrenchroof

I have absolutely no idea why it's not in vanilla. I hope it will be eventually fixed. Adjusting roof tiles seems like the exact kind of thing wrenches were designed for.

I thought exactly the same thing!

Take a look at the mod named one-roof

This is THE ANSWER to most roof questions.

I know what you mean. I guess you could use the peaks for a ridgeline on a block line on your roof - but why do you have a block line on your roof? Spanish influence, maybe?
I gave them a real good try to incorporate them, but even when I wanted an overhang, the existing slanted roof did the job better than the low flat roof. Why there is no connectivity between the parts I don't know. Now, if they formed part of a low slanted roof, I could get behind that.

Overall, these roof parts look like they should do a lot more than they do. @Johnny Blood summed it up well.

Yes, yes and yes. It is one of the reasons I refuse to use roof tiles. I know it's possible, I know the angles I should be in, but it's one of the most frustrating things in the game that I just ignore the "official" tiles and chisel my own, because... they *can* be rotated!

I love roof tiles in general. I just always use that mod.

So it's just me breaking and replacing the roof tile block to get the correct orientation?

Okay then . . .

(Hmmm. Maybe that wrench mod would overcome a lot of placement issues. . . )

No, not just you.

The issue is that it's not difficult to place them correctly - once you line up the angles - it's that it is far too easy to place incorrectly and without a wrench option (and normally, being roofs, you are working at height, needing to be perched at a specific angle, and when you remove a block it's likely to fall to the floor than into your hands) it makes the task all the more tedious and frustrating.

The game's building mechanics are brilliant in places, and it easily outshines that low res block nonsense of "the other block game" but the situation regarding roofs is an odd one, almost to the point that there may be a technical reason why they can't be rotated rather than the devs just forgetting to add that functionality to them.

OK, I opened Wrenchable Rooftiles to see if there was anything complicated about it, but no, it's just a patch that adds behaviors to the roof tiles.

This just seems to be an oversight on the part of the devs.

Well, it was me until I found that mod.
