doomstrike53 Posted April 24, 2025 Report Posted April 24, 2025 I'm at the point in my game where I've got plans for a new house/homestead, and I'm working on designing the cellar. Problem is, I'm not sure about what foods are best to cook, and that makes designing difficult. Should I bother making bread when pies exist? Should I be making porridge at all or is baking with ground flour better in every way? Soups vs stews? What's the point of crates when clay vessels preserve vegetables so much better? I'm overwhelmed at the options and not sure where they all fall in the progression of the game, what's better or worse. Attached pic is just my creative mode WIP This is mainly for a vanilla server I've been playing on with family, but I've also got a solo game going on with expanded foods/culinary artillery that's almost to that point, so information about that is very welcome too.
Zane Mordien Posted April 24, 2025 Report Posted April 24, 2025 (edited) I think you are overthinking it. Do whatever looks cool. You probably have so much food you can't eat it all anyway. I never use crates for food storage myself and I personally have limited use for pies since they rot to fast for my liking. I make jam and eat porriage in the winter months if I'm trying to keep the fruit and cereal bars full, but that's all preference. I should note that I don't use any cooking mods so do whatever lasts longest. Edited April 24, 2025 by Zane Mordien
Hexalan Posted April 29, 2025 Report Posted April 29, 2025 With the Expanded Foods mod you have a bewildering amount of options. So keep it simple and too the basics. Veggies last best raw in vessels, so do tree fruits like apples and pears. Berries have to be processed quickly. They can be made into jam, dried, made into wine or put into more long lasting foods like berry bread or muffins. I make pies on demand, they don't last long. Meats need to be potted, dried, or cured. I'm not even touching pickling. Rotted food isn't waste either! It makes fertilizer. Once you have a garden of a decent size food isn't a problem and it becomes an aspect to play with. Want to make a winery, go for it. Curious about power muffins? Try to make them! They're a lot of work but a muffin that can heal and completely fill your sat bar is awesome! If you want to stock your cellar with everything imaginable you can do that to. So do the basics and just take time and enjoy figuring out all the things you can do with EF. I been playing with it for years and still find new things to do with it.
