Mir 616 Posted April 25, 2025 Report Posted April 25, 2025 the shiver is straight up unfun to play against with how its behavior is set. the drifters are a grouping enemy thats intended to overwhelm you by sheer number, forcing you to watch your footing while landing hits. the bowtorns act as area denial enemies and have several ways of being dispatched, and possibly weaponized in your favour. the shiver is litteraly a reskinned wolf, my main gripe is that its FASTER then you. it shows up, deletes a chunk of your health and then pisses off to god knows where, it adds nothing interesting to the combat
Thorfinn Posted April 25, 2025 Report Posted April 25, 2025 (edited) Welcome to the forums, @Mir 616. I think it's purpose is situational awareness. If the whole "spawning in the sunlight" thing were to get fixed, he's probably fine. It's his propensity to pop up when you are focusing on building your farmstead or arguably exploring the countryside that makes him a problem. I say "arguably" because if the spawn rules are fixed, he wouldn't be spawning right next to you in the first place. Incidentally, if you practice your jumping, and avoid flat, featureless ground, he's not faster than you. [EDIT] If you want to nerf the movement, though, look at the file shiver.json in .\assets\survival\entities\land Look for "movespeed". Currently the one you are looking for, under "seekentity", is at line 304-7. For reference, wolves seek at 0.045 and raccoons flee at 0.035, if you want to use them as guides. Just change "0.05" to something lower and Bob's your uncle. Edited April 25, 2025 by Thorfinn 3
LadyWYT Posted April 26, 2025 Report Posted April 26, 2025 Welcome to the forums! @Thorfinn's right on the money with this one--situational awareness is critical when it comes to shivers, since they give you much less reaction time than other monsters. They are fast, yes; they need to be fast in order to close gaps and deal with ranged enemies(that is, they keep players from being able to just waltz around shooting whatever they please). As for outrunning the player though...entities aside from the player aren't particularly good at navigation to being with, and the shiver's speed is slower than the player(depending on your gear). An unarmored player should be able to easily outrun a shiver, and I've worn brigandine and chased down many a shiver as well. I will note that they almost always give a warning growl before they come at you, so as soon as you hear something that sounds like gargled gravel you should be either running or readying your weapons. Likewise, they will have strokes at random, and during that time you can either get some free hits in or put some distance between yourself and the shiver. Their fondness for hit-and-run tactics also gives you a short window to put some distance between yourself and the shiver, as it may take one a couple of seconds to regain interest in chasing after biting you. 2
