Game wont boot worlds

My friend has all the requirements to boot the game however has to run it through linux. the game loads fine however when joining or creating worlds the game just crashes with no messages.

Not enough info to even start de-ciphering this one, let alone guess what may/may not be the issue. This is like asking "How long is the fish?"

you got mods? if so that might be the issue, when I try to use mods my game crashes, but when creating or joining my world without them it works perfectly fine
