I was noticing that there are times of heavy rifts and got to thinking... what if the rifts became cataclysmic and combined? Into 1 big rift that, during the day, you could see through to the world of Rust. But at night... LARGE dangerous creatures could come through that normally couldn't?

Boss fights for large groups. Impossible to solo. Just a thought.

Spoiler alert! It's already a thing in the game, as it's pretty much what the temporal storms are. 😁 Something of this caliber isn't the same as your typical rift, which are just fine as they are.

Spoiler

The kind of rift you're referring to is also implemented as a chapter two story location known as the Devastation. While not a full part of the Rust world, the Rust world is clearly leaking through and there is no longer any familiar nature to be found in that area. The location itself is essentially a gigantic rift that is much more stable than the little ones we commonly see.

In any case, it's a neat idea, but I don't think it work well with the rifts that we already have. Something like this is better suited for specific locations, in my opinion, much like have already been implemented in the game. In regards to large, dangerous monsters...I'm sure we'll see a bit more variety as more content is added to the game, but for now shivers serve to fill that particularly niche. Unfortunately, I don't think the shiver model really does them justice for how big they're actually suppose to be.

As for a monster that's big and tough enough to be a miniboss...that's something better suited for a ruin deep underground, a temporal storm, or story-specific side location. If a miniboss can just randomly appear anywhere, that tends to be more frustrating than fun. In the other block game, I played with a mod that implemented such a concept, and while it was interesting hunting down the special monsters for special loot, it was also very frustrating because they would sometimes be a little too strong and/or spawn in the worst possible location for dealing with them.

Sawblades and the like are pretty close to the same thing as a miniboss.

Hmm, yea. I can see that. Temporal storms as a super rift on a global scale.

Ok then, to be PERCISE: a Medium rift then on a local scale. That way, you can outrun it.  One that would let something half the size of Dave through.

And make it a trigger event, say you have to carry 16 or 32 temporal gears around & regular rifts become attracted to you and when you collect enough, (8 rifts?) they combine to make a medium rift. That way, you can set up an area to fight it too but at the same time, it would be WORK to collect the gears, gather the rifts (if any exist at the time) and no frustration from mini-bosses ploping upon you when you're out and about. You could even give the min-bosses levels based upon how deep the setup area is. build it in the sky? dragon type mini-boss. bottom of the world? Worm type mini-boss. It could even be a story event. Find a deep underground ruin where you find the information written on the wall on HOW to trigger the event as a warning NOT to carry too many temporal gear or to even keep them stored in seperate locations as just storing them in chests... cause medium rifts.

But hey, people usually hate my ideas in real life, why would the like them in game?
