wile1411 Posted July 7, 2025 Report Posted July 7, 2025 I'm enjoying my 'common' rain area that I've setup my abode. Was quite weird last night with a thunderstorm happening in the game while an IRL thunderstorm was happening outside. The thunder hitting in game while a slow deep bass rumble was felt from outside made for a neat experience. Aside from turning to snow, I was wondering if the rain was seasonal at all? By seasonal, I mean, does the intensity / frequency change throughout the year? Would be awesome for the rain to be mapped to a skewed distribution that related to time of year/climate. Was looking into the viability of a 'rain gauge' mod, but if the rain algorithm is just a RNG variable (taking into climate frequency) then any long term data would just be a squiggly line with no interesting pattern. The idea of checking and emptying a rain gauge just seems on point for this games pace and it's idea of deliberate and methodical processes that become rewarding over time.
Thorfinn Posted July 7, 2025 Report Posted July 7, 2025 I have not looked at the code (it's another thing I'd rather not *know*) but I have the same impression -- there definitely seems to be a "rainy season".
wile1411 Posted July 7, 2025 Author Report Posted July 7, 2025 Same, it something I'd like to 'learn' about the area I've settled in. But it may not be a thing in the game as yet / if ever.
LadyWYT Posted July 7, 2025 Report Posted July 7, 2025 Like Thorfinn, I've not looked at the code either to know for sure. However, judging from experience, it tends to rain more often in the spring than in other seasons. Likewise, wintertime tends to have strong winds more often than the other seasons do. Other than that, it's a mix of the regional average rainfall(Almost all the time, Very Common, Common, etc) and RNG. 2
