itsokmc Posted August 24, 2025 Report Posted August 24, 2025 Hi folks! I hope you're all doing well I was wondering if anyone could tell me why my animals keep disappearing? I have them in a huge barn each in a 5x7 space, packed dirt flooring because I thought a fox was somehow spawning. I haven't been able to feed them as well as I'd like because I'm still growing everything. They weren't disappearing when they were outside in the cold with a dirt roof so why now? Among the missing are chickens, bighorn sheep, some pigs. I do have a few mods, nothing too crazy, taming wolves/cats, more bird types, I think that's it. Is it because they're getting old and dying? I thought if this was the case they'd at least leave a corpse nearby.
Solution Thorfinn Posted August 24, 2025 Solution Report Posted August 24, 2025 Plenty of lighting? They despawn in the dark. 1
Echo Weaver Posted August 24, 2025 Report Posted August 24, 2025 I didn't know livestock despawned in the dark. Thanks for the warning.

If they're at risk of despawning due to light level, there should be a warning on the creature's nameplate that reads something like this: "Deprived of light; will probably die soon". I'm not sure how long it actually takes them to die though. It's not instant, but I don't think there's a long grace period since the intention behind the mechanic is to keep natural creatures from getting stuck underground. 2
itsokmc Posted August 24, 2025 Author Report Posted August 24, 2025 I had no idea light played a roll. I actually started lighting each pen in case it was because of the drifters. I hope it works! thank you
