Tabulius Posted August 25, 2025 Report Posted August 25, 2025 This is an idea ripped straight from stalker anomaly. It's one of my favorite ways to do permadeath, since in my opinion permadeath's main use is giving some extra sense of accomplishment and stakes to the early game. But, after I've grown attached to the world I don't necessarily want to risk losing it all to falling down a ravine. The idea is you can set the game to grant you a new life every day to couple of days. In stalker days can be quiet long so this is fair, but in vintage story it might be better to have month or even year long periods depending on how much challenge you want. You could go more in depth and have some in game or in lore things that grant you lives, but a simple timer would be the easiest thing to implement. Could other players see themselves using this if it were a feature?

I myself wouldn't use the feature, and honestly I don't really see a high demand for such, at least not enough to make it part of the base game. That being said, there's at least one mod that supports this kind of play, although it may or may not need an update to work properly on 1.21: https://mods.vintagestory.at/temporallife
AyIa Posted August 27, 2025 Report Posted August 27, 2025 (edited) An immersive and realistic option would be the ability to have children with an NPC or player. This way, the Seraphim will have a defined sex, male or female, and if the character dies, you can be "reborn" by controlling their descendant, and you can choose which one if you have more than one child. Since this is a mechanic exclusive to "permadeath mode," we can think a little further to add more realism and difficulty: Enable age groups: child, young adult, adult, and old. In old age, you can choose to die of a heart attack and then control a descendant. And the ages would have debuffs and buffs for each. However, in old age you do not die of old age, only of a heart attack if you choose or the adversities of the world. But the NPCs in your family do die of old age, only the playable character and other NPCs (traders) in the world do not die of old age. Edited August 27, 2025 by AyIa 1
Phantom72 Posted August 28, 2025 Report Posted August 28, 2025 I've always had this internal debate about +lives over time. VS in the early game, you must go outside to get food, but in late game you can literally park for years without having to set a foot outside. The request is not complex, and in lieu of other options it's still a good suggestion. I've played permadeath before, and was seriously considering starting my first VS game in that mode. Thank the heavens I didn't

There was a mod for the other block game that implemented this concept--Minecraft Comes Alive. That being said...no, I don't think I'd want to see this implemented in the game, for many different reasons. The prime argument I would use against it though, is that seraphs are immortal, according to the lore. Even if they're able, I don't think it's a good idea for them to be reproducing. Permadeath/limited lives exist as an option on world creation, yes, but that is to offer additional challenge for those who want that kind of game, and isn't supported by the lore. Now this idea as a mod? Sure. 1
