For full transparency, I only have two mods installed, Buzzwords, since I have/had no clue what bees sound like.. and really didnt expect them to be as rare as they are..

The other is Prospecting Together, mainly since I dont have knowledge on chunk sizes, and dont really know how prospecting works (well, now I have a better idea. Its more or less a chance that the ore spawns there, not that its that consistency of said ore...)

Anyways! I've been struggling with copper, I have been running out, I still live in a mud hut, and I really want good tools... So where does the euphoria come in? I had known a cave nearby was gonna be my best bet at magnetite, before I had installed Prospecting Together. So frankly I didnt even need the mod! Well, it'll be useful later. anyways.. I go down, do a few node searches...

Magnetite: Medium amount

then I dig deeper... Magnetite: Very Large amounts... I was expecting poor grade, and I've adopted the mentality of "take what you can get" so I was just happy I had even found the damn stuff.

Then as I unveiled it... Rich quality vein. I may be getting my hopes up, but by the looks of it, its saying that I'll get 25 units per block here.

I already have a bloomery ready, so I'm excited to get my shiny new stuff. :D

Okay so I was writing this while I was digging it out. My pickaxe is nearly broken, and I have 85 chunks of rich magnetite...

AND THE VEIN STILL ISNT DONE! I feel I almost got *too* much x3

Also, slight damper... I need a bronze anvil by the looks of it which I have enough copper for 435 bronze units? I wont run out of tin definitely, but I guess i need to do a bit more mining... Well, I'll rise up to that >:3

I was so overwhelmingly pleased when I found my first hematite vein, and it was massive too. It feels like you've found the key to the good life, and all you need to do is smelt and refine and forge it out.

Okay so I got iron tools.. I decided to go back to the vein, figuring its best to get it all done, rather than tempt the drifters.

It just keeps going... I think it may honestly be multiple nodes mixed into one because... I have in this batch alone 339 pieces of the rich chunks.

AND I found 3 crystalized rich chunks. Making the total 424, and the 3 crystalized chunks.

BUT THERES STILL MORE! Is this normal? Am I being excited over something fairly common? So I have a few questions if anyone sees this..

Is caving usually this rewarding? And is Iron usually this common? Am I getting excited over something thats entirely mundane? x3

I guess it depends on experience, since i suffered through a few copper shortages, this is so freeing.

Caving can be lucrative, but is very risky, especially if you don't know what you're doing. The prospecting pick is generally the safer and more reliable way to figure out where to dig for ore.

In regards to iron specifically...yes and no. Iron veins are very large, so the amount you're finding isn't really anything out of the ordinary. What's more unusual is the type of iron that you found. Hematite tends to be the most common variety to find. Magnetite tends to be quite elusive, even with high prospecting readings(a prospect readout is only what could have have spawned there, not what actually did), and limonite...I only recall seeing once.

In any case, it's a very nice find! 😁

Well, my first iron pickaxe just broke qwQ. But if I had to guess, my prospect readings said the chances were only for Sphalerite and Magnetite, even though for magnetite it was in the 0.4 to 0.5 range, and sphalerite was like 0.2, but it was also the only 2 readings in that area. besides one saying miniscule amounts of pentlandite. Is there some system preventing a chunk from having no ore at all? Or are there some chunks that are just straight stone?

Either way. I guess I finally have the means to actually expand from a dirt hut x3

Oh, that's interesting. My first iron vein was also magnetite. I had no idea that was unusual!

It's good to keep in mind that the density search is about probability rather than the actual location of ore. The node search is about detecting actual ore.

So it may be that no chunk can have a probability 0 for all ores.

Congratulations!

Okay, probably the final reply I'll make for this as I believe I've fully mined out this specific node after about.. 2.8 Bronze Picks and 1 Iron Pick.

So I have about 1660 pieces of rich chunks of iron. And 17 crystalized rich chunks, that I'll probably put in those display cases or whatever.

Good lord. I dont think I'll run out too quickly, and if I do, my mining has exposed another cave line in which I have seen at least one iron ore block I'll have to see if my math is right...

Im no mathematician, but I have a chest filled, 4x4 space, 16 slots right? 1024 individual chunks, 16 stacks. I have another chest thats half full, 512 + 39 spare that arent in a chunk.

and then the 85 from the original haul that started this. I could be really stupid so I'm not sticking with this number but.. All I really know is I have a ton of iron x3 if I've made an error in my math please correct me! The last thing I need is to be misguided on my stockpiles and abruptly run out of it qwQ

Also, all of the andesite I picked up while mining is featured below x32025-09-01_00-47-49.thumb.png.5845e63f179f239f610b0e2671260a77.png
