Nefaari Posted September 8, 2025 Report Posted September 8, 2025 I'm new to playing the game, and was wondering if there are any mods that are universally useful/enjoyable. Or just any that you think a new player might appreciate.
LadyWYT Posted September 8, 2025 Report Posted September 8, 2025 (edited) Welcome to the forums! Honestly, I would play the game as-is for a while first, before you go adding mods. That way, you'll get a better grasp of core game concepts and the gameplay in general, and be able to more easily figure out which parts of the game you'd most like to change and how. Edit: Playing unmodded also makes it much easier to troubleshoot problems should they occur, and also makes reporting the issue to the developers so they can fix it. Mods, on the other hand, can often have unintended consequences, and make reporting problems harder as it may be a problem with the mod specifically and not the base game. Solution Teh Pizza Lady Posted September 8, 2025 Solution Report Posted September 8, 2025 I recommend getting https://mods.vintagestory.at/simplehudclockpatch for starters. It's simple, out of the way, and can be added to any existing game without much fuss. Also https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/25352 is really good if you struggle with finding items that drop from doing things like mining, chopping trees, or farming, since these items don't bounce and rotate like they do in the other block game. Also if you're a red-blooded American like me then this mod is a MUST HAVE: https://mods.vintagestory.at/freedomunits
Shoom Posted September 8, 2025 Report Posted September 8, 2025 I think the game is completely fine 100% vanilla, after a few in-game years and lots of exploring you could add something like Better Ruins to maybe spice things up a bit, it's a simple non-intrusive mod that shouldn't cause any trouble throughout updates, just adds some extra variety to the ruins you find. Lots of people like to use UI mods, personally I prefer the vanilla way of just pressing C whenever I need temperature/rift info and keeping the screen as clear as possible. Base game has enough content to keep you occupied for several hundreds of hours. Good Luck!

MURICA! ETA: It no longer has the best mod description evar? Why not? I'm heartbroken. ETA2: OK, but it still has the best comment thread evar. Edited September 8, 2025 by Echo Weaver 1
