FairyKairi Posted September 13, 2025 Report Posted September 13, 2025 (edited) Please bear with me as this is my first forum post despite being a player for over a month now, lol. So my current save (100% vanilla, no mods as I could not run them anyway) is currently in the middle of Autumn (12-day months), but I have proven myself a lousy hunter and thus have like two pelts to my name after two rabbits got stuck in a hole while I was out exploring. In my desperation, I Googled how to make a rabbit trap. A Reddit post from about a year ago mentioned a rabbit trap with a vegetable lure (pictured), so I made it. Soon after, I realized that no hares spawned in the area I originally put it, so I moved it near an Agriculture Trader to the northeast of where I had it. I HAVE seen both hares and wolves (which I died to multiple times) in the area. The trap pictured has been there at least four days and NOTHING has spawned. Why is it not working? I have plans for basket traps in another area, but I keep forgetting where I put them, lol. EDIT: I did find another Reddit post from eight months ago that mentioned the same trap, so it MIGHT be 1.21's fault. Edited September 13, 2025 by FairyKairi
Solution Ryilo Posted September 13, 2025 Solution Report Posted September 13, 2025 This has been nerfed because it would spawn a LOT of rabbits in a farm, free meat and pelts in abundance. Place a basket trap with a carrot on the top of the pillar, they should get trapped.

The idea is exactly the same: using the lure of a vegetable to lure rabbits into a pit trap. If a planted crop would provide free meat and pelts in abundance, than so would a baited reed basket. Why would they nerf the one but not the other? And nerfing it to be less of a meat free-for-all is one thing, but that shouldn't mean that the concept no longer works at all. It turns out the creature behavior was bugged, so rabbits and other animals weren't trying to eat crops like they were supposed to. The bug should be fixed in 1.22, but I haven't actually tested the bunny pit trap to see if it works or not.
