I'm a newer player who's trying to go through the story. I've gotten as far as finding Nadiya, but after wandering around in circles and talking to the same 5 or so villagers over and over it seems like something is wrong. Checking the wiki seems to indicate that there should be 17 villagers. The tavern keeper mentions a Sedna who seems like the next step in the story, but that villager (and many others) just don't seem to exist. Does this mean I can't continue the story? Or does anyone know of any around/way to fix this?

Edit: I did share a fix that currently works as of posting a little ways down this thread.

I've heard a couple other reports of this, seems to be a decently common bug with 1.21.
It's already on the github bug tracker as 'high priority'.

You could try regenerating the village with the /wgen regen number of chunks here command, though maybe you'll just have to wait until this bug gets fixed.

Welcome to the forums! Sedna specifically likes to hang out either in the tavern, or in the village square. I'm not sure if she has a home or not, but most villagers seem to have at least some place to go to sleep. I'm not ruling out it being bugged, of course, but I will note that the village is deceptively small; there are plenty of little nooks and crannies to explore, and the villagers all have varying routines so it can be rather easy to miss them. Depending on the time of day you're exploring, it's very possible that most of them could be asleep. Probably one of the easiest ways to locate several of the more prominent ones(including Sedna) is to hang around the tavern in the evening. A good chunk of the villagers will go there to relax and socialize after a hard day's labor before turning in for the night.

I walked through the village for about 2 in game days and could never find more than the same 5 or so villagers. Found out Sedna tends to be in the tavern in the evenings, but only three villagers ever went there. Good to know about the bug reports though. Here's to hoping it can be resolved in a way that doesn't require starting over again. I'll have to give the regeneration command a shot when I next play. Thank you very much for the suggestion. I'll share if it works when I do get the chance. Thank you for the answers!

I tried regenerating the chunks. Unfortunately it's just the same handful of villagers in what is mostly a ghost town. Weirdly the rain just seems to pass through everything now (like the roofs and upper floors), but it wasn't raining when I first explored the town so that might not be new. There's a lot that's kind funky with the village also including the fact it's not even really on the map (it's just an indistinct brown blob). I suppose best I can do now is see if a patch can fix it.Thanks for the suggestions though and letting me know it does seem to be a known bug.

Same issue + now I have 2 blacksmiths. Is there a command or smt to give myself the map to the devastation in the meantime?

Welcome to the forums! I think there are supposed to be two different blacksmiths in the village. As for the Devastation map, you could try retrieving it from the creative menu, or if the female blacksmith is present in the village you can talk to her to get a map to a different location, where you can also get a Devastation map if you've not already completed the quest for the Devastation.

Or if you want to go the harder route, you could just ride north or south and try to find it without the map. It's pretty hard to miss, since it starts coming into view about 2000 blocks away from the perimeter, so a day or two of riding should let you find it without the map.

Hi! Thx for the welcome :)

I went to the "other location" and got the map (yippee!), couldn't retrieve it from the creative mode unfortunately.

I am pretty sure this blacksmith is not supposed to be there, as they are both named "Agnieszka." The other blacksmith "Wacław" was present but since the chunk regen is now MIA. I hope this spawning issue gets fixed or a workaround is found/made until then :D

Edit: My devastation isn't 2k blocks away according to the map but ~5k/6k blocks (I have default story distance?)

Oh, yeah, no, you are correct there! 😂

This is correct. The Devastation itself is about 7k from Nadiya, however, it starts to become visible when you're about 2k blocks away from the Devastation's perimeter...or maybe it's the Devastation marker I'm thinking of. In any case, my point there is that the Devastation will come into the distant view long before you actually reach the area itself, so it should be relatively easy to find with some travel, even without a map.

So I had another user (Shout out to Cosmic_Abraxas) message me since they couldn't seem to reply here and after trying this fix, it does seem to work. This is what they sent me

"Go to your account settings on the main menu and reinstall the basic 1.21.0 version (don't worry, it won't delete any of your saved stuff.)

Then, open the game back up and enter your world.  Go to the center of the village and type /wgen regen 3 into chat and let the chunks reload.  The village should now appear normally on the map, music should be playing, and the villagers should have reappeared.

Now you can update your game back to the current version and it should all still be there.  Just make sure you don't have a mule with stuff in saddlebags within the radius of the village when you regen the chunks.  I learned that one the hard way lol.  Someone mentioned that you may have to do this again when you get to the desolation, but I haven't gotten that far
yet. Hope this helps!"

Followed those instructions and things are looking much better. The village actually shows on the map and I could immediately tell there were more NPCs. Now apparently the Devastation is next? That sounds like an ominous time. Looking forward to whatever that's about lol

Hello all, I am experiencing the same bug. I found the village, but only 4 total villagers spawned. I searched high and low for the others, but they are not there. I used wgen regen to regenerate the chunks, but this didn't help at all. I am on game version 1.21.1

Hello again, I just gave this fix a try and it worked! Immediately it went from ghost town to bustling community with music and lots of activity.

So I was able to progress the story and do the things that lead up to the Devastation. The problem now is that it seems like once again things just aren't spawning in? After spending hours on the tower with a broken elevator (I assume it's supposed to make checkpoints possible, but it could only ever be called to the floor you were on), I finally made it to the top. Found the lens, but couldn't take it even after investigating around a while. It looks like there's supposed to be a boss? Starting to wonder if there's a problem with the current version and story location generation with entities. Unfortunately, the method that worked for Nadiya doesn't seem to work for this location so I'm once again stuck with the story. Not sure if I'll bother making another topic for it. Might just give up on the game's story content for a while. Just a thing to look out for to anyone who checks this for info though.

To my knowledge, this is intended behavior. When you call the elevator, it will come to whichever floor you are on, however, it will only go as high as the highest floor you've made it to. This ensures that players will still need to complete each section of the puzzle, but they won't have to repeat sections if they happen to make a mistake.

The Lens is retrievable after beating the boss, and the boss itself should appear shortly after you reach the top of the tower in the present, if it's not there already. However, there have also been issues with this particular boss not showing up to do its job and instead patrolling the Devastation--I had this issue last time I played through that section of the story. You could try reloading the world and tinkering around with the Timeswitch mechanic to see if you can get the boss to show up, but otherwise you should be able to switch to creative and smite the boss with the admin blade to unlock the Lens and progress the story. Granted, it's a bit tricky to do that, and it's not ideal to force it like that with creative, but it does work.

I've had the same journey - thank you for your tip for regenerating Nadiya, it worked for me too. I've run into a beautiful and horrifying devastation which was also totally devoid of rust-life except some wings in the sky, and I seemed to have a bit of a bug in the tower, being unable to fall through a floor which didn't exist in the modern day, but did in the past (I could see through the floor in the modern day while walking around on it, but the room below appeared to be still in the past).

Do any of you know what command would work to reset the devastation? I'd love to experience the horror properly. And if it worked for you in the past, what version were you playing? I'll re-load it in that version and just play it though in that version.

This is probably working as intended, depending on the rift activity at the time. The ambient monster spawns for the area got turned down a bit in order to make exploration a little easier for the player. If it's a quiet day, there probably aren't a lot of monsters to find, but they should be there.

If it was in the basement, I think that's intentional. I'm fairly certain the Tower suffers from some of the same weird space-copying that happened in the Resonance Archives.

I did this and now the wooden pathways are those missing texture blocks (completely white block with a red question mark symbol in the middle) :/

This happened in my world, too, I had a total of 3 villagers present. It also happens to some traders; their trading carts will be lit up and everything, but nobody will be there. One time it happened, I was wandering around to see if they had walked off or something, but when I came back to the cart, the trader had miraculously appeared out of nowhere. It was a tiny cart that had 3 spaces of walking room, so I couldn't have missed 'em. NPCs seem to just not spawn upon chunk generation sometimes.

Ran this processes but as soon as I run /wgen regen 3 the game soft crashes... Like I can interact with stuff (kinda) and talk to people but they won't give me any items and I can't load new chunks, also in the top right of the screen it says host not responding... even though I'm in a singleplayer world... If anyone has a fix to this plz let me know I'm really frustrated at this point.

Edit: I should also note that when attempting to save and close the world it gets stuck and nothing appears in the "log" thing that appears in the center of the screen. Even when I hit force quit nothing happens and the game just stays like that until I inevitably Alt F4. When the world is then reloaded nothing is saved.
