Do you also struggle with picking a suitable base location?

Do you - fellow vintage story players, also struggle with picking a nice base location for your new save? I recently had to install windows 11 for my computer, and decided to start fresh once again... Which was not the greatest idea I had. I struggle not because I cant find resources near me, its that i want a beautiful mountainous scenery every time I go outside, but still want to build on flat terrain. And after hundreds of world and 2 days of searching, i cant find a suitable world for myself. I tried every single worldgen mod under the sun and nothing has flourished from it. Do you guys also have the same problem, or is it just me?

Does any of you maybe know a good world setting prefix i could copy? Every time i do this its either way too patchy, too hilly, or just water all around.

Gotta start landscaping. There is settlements irl which are based upon steeps. You can half create a platform for each building, embed them to mountain or just carve a good amount of cavity to the mountain side.

Now personally I havent had this issue cuz this is my first time playing. I just settled in the first plains I saw and didnt even think I would be invested in that save but I am 30+ hrs now so no turning back. For my second time I am planning to use plains and valleys (?) mod.Its worldgen seems pretty and might be what u r looking for.

I have this problem too...  I restart, wander around for a few days to see if there is something that "feels right" and if not, then restart again.

I'm not one to start with a scenario in mind like building a dwarven mountain home or something like that.  A scenario would make this easier...

I need to find a place that looks unique, feels right and usually has access to water for a boat/raft.

All that said...  when I have settled, explored the area and things have started to feel stale, I restart again... :)

I do have that problem. One thing I've started doing is looking for a location with a certain theme in mind. On this new world I have, I'm building a dwarven settlement inside the mountain. I found a relatively thick mountain with decent surrounding terrain. I also use the rivers mod and the mountain is bisected by the river which looks cool.

You really need to have a theme in mind and search with that mindset. There are plenty of times where nothing looks good until I have a set goal in mind.

Another themed build I'd love to do, potentially in the same world is find a big desert-area and build in a Byzantium-style. Just gotta have a set building style in mind.

I am sure that regardless to the worldgen, it is worthwhile to explore a little in the beginning. Either you die (and may start a new world), or you find some spot up to 1-2 thousand blocks that is good enough to become loved in time.

For my successful gameplays, I have always found satisfying spot mostly up to 500 blocks from the spawn, once or twice up to one thousand. Yes, the early game with distant spawn is more challenging, but it also improved my survival skills.

About landform mods, I was most satisfied with Plains and Valleys. If I remember, it was on standard settings in 1.19. (landform scale 100% , upheaval 30%). I am not sure how they deal with new 1.21 defaults that expanded default landform scale significantly. Recently tried Terra Pretty, but it did not satisfied me (I have tried like 2 or 3 worlds with it so not so many).

Also, I am exact opposite of CigsAndHam, as it is a landscape I see that brings ideas what to build there :) .
