  1. I vote for a new start... I love the early game in VS. Exploration of what the world has to offer and the new procedural dungeons to find. You mentioned looking for an ocean, that would be another reason to restart with different settings per LadyWYT's reply. Whatever you decide... Enjoy
  2. I doubt I'll ever do steel... too much busy work to be fun for me. I generally keep exploring the world or restart if a new version comes out. Enjoy!
  3. Agreed... I rarely seal crocks because I'm making a weeks worth of food (sometimes more if I'm traveling) and keep the raw ingredients in the cellar. Cabbage is king
  4. I don't have a forever world, so my highway is just a single path wide. I can't fathom making it wider and fancier because it will eventually go away... likely when the next iteration of the procedural dungeons is added. I tunnel thru some large mountains because you need the stone... you have to tunnel 3 block high to fit the path slab. It's very much only for running and not the elk. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of the elk from the standpoint of running over uneven ground... it feels clunky to me... it does sound like a good idea on the path tho. Enjoy!
  5. I've acquired the odd habit of building "The Kings Highway" to the first story location. Takes a long time but I find it very relaxing to complete.
  6. Can boats go up shallow rapids? If so... What about finding the flattest path between the lakes and building a raised aqueduct as your canal? You can use dirt for that. Much easier to collect quickly.
  7. Wait... so....... you're saying I need to be a specialist in construction... with certifications -- as well as have the knowledge to diagnose errors, etc just to use the $50 Black and Decker cordless drill I got from Walmart??!? Honestly I think you've proven my point about AI being a power tool even better than I ever could... especially since some of the best coding LLMs are only a $20/mo subscription away...and offer instant access to the latest models (Claude Fable 5 for example was recently pulled because of a vulnerability but when I used it, it blew me away with how in-depth and accurate it was... It was almost better than me and I have a 4-year degree in computer programming!) We all have our hills to die on... I still avoid buying things on Amazon to support local brick-n-mortar jobs. Is Amazon more convenient? Yes... that's why it wins... AI tools are the same thing... they make it more convenient... we can't close that door regardless how loud we yell about it. We just have to make personal choices and remember that others make their own choices. Enjoy VS in whatever way you wish.
  8. This is me, but I like starting over to see a different world. I've never made steel (too much work I guess) and I have created a road to the first story location. I will have to make a run 20K South... sounds like an adventure! Another goal I'm making in my current world is to find crystals/geodes. Enjoy
  9. This! I learned early to ensure I have clothes for winter stowed away so I could do this. I suppose you could have the game run and go do other things (checking in occasionally) just to keep winter rolling... Enjoy
  10. Love it! Very creative and excellent use of clarinet voice. Bravo
  11. Has there been any mention about the procedural dungeon work that's on-going and if it will be held until version 1.23 or released in parts as completed in 1.22.x? Thanky
  12. I don't use the fishing mechanic because it feels like a fish generator... it's not organic. Same for some of the mods that have fish traps... it's the wrong vibe for me.
  13. I will sometimes build kill zones inside my home (a fenced in area by a door) and let a few baddies in at a time to throw spears at from behind a pillar of dirt. It's not elaborate like the kill boxes some folks make, but it reduces the number of times I die hunting in a storm. Enjoy!
  14. What a wonderful spot. I'd hate to over build there. Perhaps build something in the hill to the left of the spring to live in (or just visit like a vacation spot) and keep the spot lightly built on... pastures and more of a shrine by the spring... like the pool at Hearst Castle but reduced a bit.
