  1. I will sometimes build kill zones inside my home (a fenced in area by a door) and let a few baddies in at a time to throw spears at from behind a pillar of dirt. It's not elaborate like the kill boxes some folks make, but it reduces the number of times I die hunting in a storm. Enjoy!
  2. What a wonderful spot. I'd hate to over build there. Perhaps build something in the hill to the left of the spring to live in (or just visit like a vacation spot) and keep the spot lightly built on... pastures and more of a shrine by the spring... like the pool at Hearst Castle but reduced a bit.
  3. Traders were always fun things to find in the world... I'd never thought of building a shack next to one far away to mine their wares. Total epiphany happening on my world now... thank you
  4. Sharks
  5. Find water on the map... look for cattails to make your initial inventory (baskets). Pickup flint and sticks (break branchy leaves). If you see a trader, mark that spot. You can use it as a hiding place on night one. Stay out of the forests... bears and wolves want their dinner. Avoid the area they are in... the world is very large. Later use trenches to trap them. Always carry a stack of dirt. Helps if you fall into a cave or if you see a bowtorn (make a quick pillar to hide behind) Have fun, restart often if you don't like your start of the world you generated.
  6. Knapster... don't leave home without it.
  7. Have done exactly the same thing, twice... Thought I'd found a bug at first. Enjoy
  8. Yep, extremely frustrating. I don't have the keyboard dexterity to deal with this mind numbing lock-the-player-in-a-room type of fight. I've resorted to cheating to resolve this and save my sanity.
  9. Yep... would love to see that in game. As it is, in game, once an animal is hit it runs away and sits down (to recover I assume) and if you picked a good hunting spot (i.e. pushing the animal to a clearing), you can still see it and close in for another shot. It's a satisfying experience in game to hunt like that. Modern hunting bows are truly amazing... excellent trajectory at range... Enjoy!
  10. I kinda feel all click baited... kinda icky...
  11. Totally agree here... if you've ever hunted before you'd know that throwing a sharpened rock on a stick is not ideal. Bow hunting with make shift gear isn't much better. I've witnessed animals shot with rifles keep moving and take multiple hits. Hunting should not be easy and in VS it's not. VS is the only game I know of which recreates one of the most effective hunting techniques used historically... animal pits. Use them... thank me later Enjoy
  12. I’m something of a pyromaniac in VS... I often comment on the benefits of torching the world around you (ex. clear sight lines, dead animals to loot, exposed holes/caves, etc.) There are visual benefits as well... In my new 1.22 world, a peat deposit burned and created a beautiful cascade of water into a cavern it exposed. I love standing at this spot watching it flow... Enjoy
  13. For comparison, I've had multiple successes in 1.22 & 1.22.1 but have not tried in 1.22.2 I always put out multiple traps in the same area... not sure that matters though. Hope you can trap them.
  14. Tried to find another place to ask this but figured y'all might know the answer... I try to upload images but it always fails with a server error -200 The images are in game screen shots (.png) of correct size (ex. 2.2 mb) It finds them and starts loading, but gets about 1/4 of the way there and fails. I've tried over a number of days, but same same. Any ideas? Thank you
  15. Sounds like a few rage quits were served up... I've been there too when I first started paying. 1. I usually have a trader very near spawn, but not so many that literally every cool place to build has one. I'd actually like a good trader close to my base, but for my worlds they are usually a good distance away. I also, generally, move a very good distance away from spawn pretty quickly while searching for a place to live. 2. If I spawn in a forest, I immediately bee line to the plains or where ever I have good lines of sight. Once I have my "bearings" I dig a trench(s) deep enough to trap bears/wolves. I rarely die to these critters since doing this. I stay out of forests early game... I burn large areas to clear lines of sight (sometimes it's great hunting). Adapt and you'll be wearing bear armor in no time. 3. I dread popping in to the trader for refuge only to find it "open to the public" at large... lol I honestly hope you find a safer location to call home in game. Enjoy
