SweetTrip Posted October 16, 2025 Report Posted October 16, 2025 I have a question: let's say I'm going to travel far north or south to settle. Would I still be able to complete or find main story structures far away from the initial spawn? For example, if I build my base in a warm biome thousands of blocks away from the main spawn, would I need to travel back to the center to progress with my quest? Spoiler And are story buildings like the “Resonance Archives” unique, one-of-a-kind spawns tied to a world seed? If that's the case, should i focus on completing the story first, instead of traveling too far to settle with a permanent base? I don't really know how long the main quest is so far.
Solution Never Jhonsen Posted October 16, 2025 Solution Report Posted October 16, 2025 Unfortunately, yes they're centered around world spawn. There are commands for generating them, but I don't know what would happen if you spawned in copies of all the story content into a world; would the game take you to the closer one, or would it default to the game's original location for it. Yes, all of the story locations are one-of-a-kind spawns, although I don't know if they'll spawn in the same place on the same seed. 1

Got it, I guess I will just start at different biome. Thank you for you help
Maelstrom Posted October 16, 2025 Report Posted October 16, 2025 Manually spawning in multiple story sites shouldn't be a problem. Tyron specifically indicated multiple sites aren't a problem so that SMP servers could provide the story experience to multiple parties going to the RA at different times. 2 1 1

I found this out the hard way. I had a cold biome start, so I travelled a looooong way south - thinking I was being very clever to get to a better climate - only to find that I need to go all the way back again for the quest. I think this behaviour could do with a Suggestion that places the Resonance Archive within a range of where you first ask the Treasure Hunter for the map and hand over the pick-axe, for example. On a multi-player world it could tie off either the first player to do so, OR fall back to generating a distance from world spawn. I think this would encourage travel - because in my view that should be encouraged, rather than anchoring players to hang around near spawn for fear of missing out and needing to come back. IIRC, this is how normal treasure maps work -- actually, not exactly, but the location is tied to where you are when you read the map. I bought one but haven't used it yet because I bought the resonance archive map at the same time. I want to be encouraged to travel too, and I understand Chapter 2 will do that. But I feel like what anchors players to hanging around near spawn is the difficulty of changing spawn. I'd like to take on a more nomadic game, but it all comes down to where I go if I die. I don't know if it's possible to change your spawn to, say, the deck of your sailing ship. That seems like it would be a nice way to handle the problem. I also imagine an elk-pulled caravan with enough space for a very simple base where one could set respawn. I'm resistant to using a bedspawn mod because that seems too simple and also feels like that other block game. I like that spawn point is set with temporal gears, though I do set the respawns to infinite in game settings because I want to actually be able to set my spawn point for reals. I like the suggestion for an option of a mobile base respawn point, for the ship or the elk, as you suggested. This post won't be found here, so perhaps we should put this idea to the Suggestions thread? I also am playing with infinite respawns and set my spawn point. The novelty of finding yourself 5,000 blocks from your death point, when 30,000 blocks away from it, wore off very fast. It wouldn't be so bad, but even with experience, death can come suddenly and unexpectedly. FYI for other players, there is a respawn radius command which changes the default huge respawn radius to something more normal: https://wiki.vintagestory.at/World_Configuration#Player_spawn_and_death /worldconfig spawnRadius [number] Sets how far players spawn in a radius from world spawn. Eg /worldconfig spawnRadius 100 will respawn you within 100 blocks of your death Also worth checking on that page the other variables: Edited October 17, 2025 by Professor Dragon
