Professor Dragon Posted November 4, 2025 Report Posted November 4, 2025 Is there a way to suggest small changes to the Wiki? For example, I noticed that the Painting "Bog Fort" is on the English language page, but not the main page. Â https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Painting/en https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Painting Most people won't want to be full blown editors. It is basically an "all or nothing" approach. But there are still things on the Wiki that could be corrected. There is a Communities page as well where suggestions can be made, but you need to have Wiki mark-up knowledge and risk stomping on existing material to contribute. So what is the best way to do this? Is there an existing thread? Can we ping a particular person? Or should we make a thread in the Forums (or use this one?) Professor Dragon. Â Â Â
Bumber Posted November 4, 2025 Report Posted November 4, 2025 (edited) I think the wiki will always remain out of date the way it is. You can't expect any significant number of people to contribute while making them jump through hoops. Trying to cram all proposed changes into a single place defeats the point of using software designed to allow anyone to easily edit a page they're viewing. It's less a wiki, and more of a game manual that the devs expect someone else to write for them. Either form a paid team to keep it up to date with changes, or lower the restrictions. Otherwise, starting an unofficial wiki seems more practical. Edited November 4, 2025 by Bumber 1
hstone32 Posted November 4, 2025 Report Posted November 4, 2025 Maybe they should make the wiki browser read-only, and allow users to push changes via a public repo so that changes could be reviewed in merge requests before getting added. 4

Heya, I'm actually a Wiki editor (with a grand total of 1 edit lol) It's really simple to get editor privileges, but they don't seem to have any presence here on the forums. It's all done through the Official Vintage Story discord server, if that's not a problem you can just ask for editor privileges through the wiki-and-translations channel.

I appreciate that, but that's not really the point of what I'm suggesting. Like the op suggested, editing the wiki right now is an "all or nothing" sort of deal. I don't want my edits to be fast-tracked immediately to the final product. I'd rather have them reviewed by my peers first. 1

You're right though, it would be very nice to have a proper pipeline, I think it just boils down to the wiki not having that many peers to review. 1

I'll try the Discord. That's not usually my thing, but I'll take a look. It kind of boggles my mind that: Discord seems to be replacing the Forums/Wiki as "the official information source", unofficially. (That's not the problem of anyone here - just a comment. ) The Wiki hasn't yet got around to implementing more granular edit access. The Devs. don't have a more active hand in maintaining the Wiki. That there is no thread here for "Suggest changes to the Wiki." Hmmm. Perhaps I'll make one. I might even have to consider Wiki access. I didn't wish to go that deep though. Professor Dragon. 1
