Animals not breeding/going into traps

I’ve caught and bred animals in the past, but it appears it is not working anymore. Example: Chickens are not going into the traps with grain in them. The chickens I ran into a coop are also not laying eggs, even with a rooster about.

Has the chances changed on catching them or breeding them? Also, I do have mods installed, but I don’t believe that is the issue. Any help and advice is much appreciated.

Nothing has changed, save for the addition of the large crate trap to catch baby elk.

Definitely a mod issue in this case. Are you running Wildcraft mods? There is a mod that makes them "work" on the latest game version, but Wildcraft itself hasn't yet been updated for 1.21. My friend and I tried it on our server and ran into the same issue, so that's what I would check for first.

If you aren't using Wildcraft, then it's some other mod causing the issue. The best thing to do in that case is to doublecheck your modlist, looking for anything that could affect the animals in this fashion and then checking those modpages to see if any issues have been reported. It's also a good idea to make sure that the mods you are using are up to date for the current game version, or at least known to be working properly in the event they're older mods. If that doesn't solve the issue, the next step is disable your mods, test the mechanic in vanilla to make sure it works, and then re-enable your mods one by one, testing as you go, in order to pinpoint exactly which one caused the problem.

What mod is it to make the wildcraft “work”? We have so much built with this mod and removing it would be a disaster.

I don't recall. It was called "Compatibility Patch" or something to that effect. I'm not even sure it's on the database anymore, to be honest. If it is, I don't recommend using it, since it doesn't actually fix the issues that Wildcraft has on the current game version. Hence why I say it makes things "work"; that is, the code might compile and it might not spit out so many errors to the server console, but you'll still encounter issues like animals not eating from troughs or getting attracted by trap bait.

I would either wait for Wildcraft to receive a proper update, or start a new world. You could also try to continue as-is, and try to find a workaround via some use of creative mode or something.

came here to say all this... until Wildcraft officially updates, I've been staying away from it because it's blocking animals from eating from troughs because of the "patch" mods people have made for it to "work".

Spoiler alert: It doesn't yet.

Thank you for the quick reply! We’ll definitely try playing around with it first before giving up on this world.

Wish I knew that before updating everything. We’ve had this sever for awhile, but thank you for the confirmation as well. Let’s hope they update their mod soon.
