swordman Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 I been getting into chiseling lately, and I wanted to make a curved arch way for a build. The thing is I have no idea how to make any sort of curves, and I was wandering if there was a guild to follow allow or any tips that can help.
Teh Pizza Lady Posted November 27, 2025 Report Posted November 27, 2025 Hi and welcome to the forums! Chiseling is an art! Typically what I do is to pull up paint and draw a curve one pixel thick and then zoom in until it shows the individual pixels. Bonus points if you click the option to make the grid appear when zoomed in so you don't have to lose track counting pixels... 3 1
Forks Posted November 29, 2025 Report Posted November 29, 2025 I always just google "minecraft circle generator" and tweak the settings until it's roughly the shape I want. Nice because it's completely up to you how small you want to chisel it. 2
LadyWYT Posted November 29, 2025 Report Posted November 29, 2025 Aside from what others have already suggested, I highly recommend stepping back from your work at intervals throughout the chiseling process. That will allow you to check the design and correct mistakes as they appear, rather than get to the end of the project and figure out that everything was off by a tiny amount and have to redo it. It's also worth noting that you don't necessarily need to opt for smooth curves either. Hexagonal or octagonal designs also work very well, especially with blocky aesthetics, and can be a lot easier to manage than curves. 1
Professor Dragon Posted November 29, 2025 Report Posted November 29, 2025 (edited) As above. But Vintage Story has something akin to an arch generator built into "World Edit." You generate domes, and then manually slice away the edges of the dome to leave an arch. Get what you like in Creative, and the Export/Import it into your main world - or just rebuild it there once you have the dimensions worked out in the normal way. You could even do a half and half by starting the Import to get the transparent shadow build in place to get an idea, but then NOT completing the import. World Edit is a beast unto itself, but quite powerful. Call it via the "Tilda" key when in Creative Mode. See the Paint Brush mode here: https://wiki.vintagestory.at/How_to_use_WorldEdit#Paint_Brush_Tool Specifically: /we ts [0-8] Sets the paint brushes shape: 0 = Ball / Ellipsoid Or use the GUI mode. It has Ball on the drop down once you select the Brush tool. See here in this video for using the Paint Brush Tool to put down a Ball shape: Other than that, using the Minecraft Cricle Generator, as per @Forks, is much easier than tangling with World Edit if you just need a correct shape. Blue_Helix Posted November 29, 2025 Report Posted November 29, 2025 One general tip for chiseling any shape I can give is to start with the largest chiseling mode possible for a general block in before decreasing the size of the tool mode to refine the shape iteratively. One quick illustration: 2 1
