TamanduaGirl Posted December 15, 2025 Report Posted December 15, 2025 You can starve to death from just eating rabbit IRL because it's too lean so their dropping red meant is inappropriately OP. If you change chicken meant to "white meat" then rabbits could drop chicken meat so it would be more in line with their poor nutritional value. A little rename and the rabbits can drop chicken meat without it being weird.
Forks Posted December 15, 2025 Report Posted December 15, 2025 Would it make sense under the same logic to have fish meat renamed to white meat as well? I don't know much about meats for reference. I just know that I never have enough poultry and fish meat to make proper meal portions.
LadyWYT Posted December 15, 2025 Report Posted December 15, 2025 I think the better option would be making rabbits drop bushmeat, perhaps, but overall I don't think it's a huge deal if they drop redmeat. Realistically, yes, you can starve eating nothing but rabbit since rabbit meat is so lean, however, for gameplay purposes it's not terribly confusing and probably saves a bit of resources when it comes to data and coding. Chicken makes more sense as "poultry" rather than "white meat", since poultry makes it clear that the meat in question came from fowl and not something else. And that way you don't get confusing scenarios like the one @Forks mentioned, of wondering why fish is "fish" and not listed as "white meat" as well for consistency. Basically, for gameplay logic: if it came from a terrestrial prey mammal it's redmeat or bushmeat; if it came from a bird it's poultry; if it came from a fish then it's fish. 3

Maybe, it is generally light in color and not very filling but since they are adding fishing then I'm sure fish meat will get more use then. 3 hours ago, LadyWYT said: I think the better option would be making rabbits drop bushmeat, perhaps, but overall I don't think it's a huge deal if they drop redmeat. I agree, except rabbit can be bred and raised to domestic so calling it bush meat wouldn't work. Could maybe give bush meat a new name instead. I agree it's not a big deal but this game and devs do pay mind to details so I thought I'd put it out there, since it's not a well know fact about how low quality rabbit meat is, from a survival stand point. Creating "rabbit meat" could also work but is more work. It could have low saturation or even a negative to other nutrients. Like you could eat your rabbit meat but it subtracts from the vegetable bar a bit.

For gameplay balance, bushmeat should remain on the lower end of the nutritional scale so that the player is pushed to hunt more valuable prey animals or establish livestock, and not rely on bears and wolves. 2
