tide0v0 Posted February 17 Report Posted February 17 (edited) I recently went through my first winter in this game and decided to look for tropical crops. In my world, I lowered the Polar–Equator distance from the default 100k to 25k. Even then, I had to travel about 12,000 blocks, which felt like a pretty long trip to me. That made me wonder what value actually feels “right,” so I created several worlds and compared them. I figured other people might be wondering the same thing, so I wanted to share what I found. In all my test worlds, the only setting I changed was the Polar–Equator distance. Everything else was kept the same: Landcover: 80% Landcover scale: 100% World width: 1m blocks (default) World length: 1m blocks (default) Personally, if you’re not a fan of long-distance travel, setting the Polar–Equator distance to 10k or 15k might feel much better. Climate shifts will happen faster, but that’s the trade-off. Hope this helps! Edited February 18 by tide0v0 typo (warn -> warm) 1
tide0v0 Posted February 17 Author Report Posted February 17 Just to clarify, World-1 to World-5 were all set to 10k. I also made a few other worlds with different PE distance values to compare. 1
V1ncent Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 Welcom to the forum, @tide0v0! Personally I feel 5k is a reasonable distance for irregular land travelling, so I was used to go with a similar setting. But after some wrestling with the sailboat system, I would like to adapt a world with more water and leave long-distance travelling to sailing. So I will leave my 2 cents here: Landcover: 70% Landcover scale: 200% World width: 51k blocks World length: 51k blocks PE distance 25k blocks So basically the world has only one equator and one pair of polar points and most landmass are ~5000k blocks away from ocean waterbody to set sail. Drifting on the ocean and searching for new land to claim really inspire my spirit of exploration. Some mods like river or terra pretty can certainly add more flavor. 1
LadyWYT Posted February 18 Report Posted February 18 I'll also throw in that if realistic climate distribution isn't a concern, patchwork biome generation will achieve similar results without needing to mess with the polar-equator distance. That is, the biomes will generate similar to the other block game, which can look rather odd in terms of realism, but be more convenient for exploration. 1
