Dirk_Bender Posted Sunday at 10:00 AM Report Posted Sunday at 10:00 AM 1. Why cant i cut the number of traders in half without removing them entirely, i want them in the game but theyre literally in the middle of every spot worth building in. 2. Same for wolfs and bears, since about 1.19 i refer to this game as vintage wolf and bear simulator, its kind of ridiculous. Options to change their behavior, which im fine with, are here, but no option to make it so you dont run into one every 6 steps? 3. I also got beef with the drifter spawn mechanics - not so much the numbers or spawns but did they change with 1.22? One spawned next to me in my storm temple where none have ever spawned before and then one crawled into the trader base, through the window, after i respawned and tried to hide, super annoying, reallly just felt like scripted death. Both of these things had never happened in hundreds of hrs

Probably because the devs haven't given players that option in the vanilla game yet. The way to adjust this is via mods, but there don't seem to be many options for just reducing their spawns rather than removing them entirely or modifying them in other ways. This mod was the closest I found, but it doesn't seem to be updated for 1.22 so I'm not sure it works. https://mods.vintagestory.at/tradercamps 4 hours ago, Dirk_Bender said: Same for wolfs and bears, since about 1.19 i refer to this game as vintage wolf and bear simulator, its kind of ridiculous. A grace period was supposed to have been added in 1.22, but I'm not sure it's working correctly yet. Mods are the route to handle this as well, currently, though I'm not sure the mods that adjust predator behavior/spawns have been updated to 1.22. 4 hours ago, Dirk_Bender said: I also got beef with the drifter spawn mechanics - not so much the numbers or spawns but did they change with 1.22? Both of these things had never happened in hundreds of hrs I'd recommend checking your interior lights; I don't know that monster spawns have changed too much but they do seem more likely to spawn in dimly lit/shaded areas if there's a rift nearby. As for the one that crawled in the window--that happens sometimes. The key is to make sure that doors and other entry points are closed, or otherwise too small for monsters to fit through, as they can and will go through those gaps if there's enough room. The crawling drifters in particular are dangerous since they're harder to spot and fit through one-block spaces.
RoyalFang Posted Sunday at 02:46 PM Report Posted Sunday at 02:46 PM About the spawning, from what i have seen, if you are in unstable areas, there is a good chance things will be able to spawn in low-lit areas. I made a home in some ruins and noticed too late that the area is unstable and now its basically guarranteed that i will have a guest in my repaired ruin if i was out and about during the day XD
HalfAxd Posted Sunday at 02:48 PM Report Posted Sunday at 02:48 PM Sounds like a few rage quits were served up... I've been there too when I first started paying. 1. I usually have a trader very near spawn, but not so many that literally every cool place to build has one. I'd actually like a good trader close to my base, but for my worlds they are usually a good distance away. I also, generally, move a very good distance away from spawn pretty quickly while searching for a place to live. 2. If I spawn in a forest, I immediately bee line to the plains or where ever I have good lines of sight. Once I have my "bearings" I dig a trench(s) deep enough to trap bears/wolves. I rarely die to these critters since doing this. I stay out of forests early game... I burn large areas to clear lines of sight (sometimes it's great hunting). Adapt and you'll be wearing bear armor in no time. 3. I dread popping in to the trader for refuge only to find it "open to the public" at large... lol I honestly hope you find a safer location to call home in game. Enjoy
