Byrnorthil Posted May 7 Report Posted May 7 A flint knife has a 1.2x speed boost on plants. A flint axe has a 2.2x speed boost on plants. The game really should not be telling new players to use their knife on mushrooms when there is absolutely no reason to do that. I can only presume the tooltip was added long ago before a rework to tool speeds.
Krakuntun Posted May 7 Report Posted May 7 I think this points rather to a rework on gathering speeds. A knife should be the obvious and logical choice for gathering mushrooms rather than an unwieldy axe. Are these tooltipps toggleable btw? 2

It should be the "Block interaction help" options in the Interface settings, with the shortcut to toggle on/off being ctrl + N on Windows. 4 hours ago, Byrnorthil said: The game really should not be telling new players to use their knife on mushrooms when there is absolutely no reason to do that. Well think about it realistically...what would you use to harvest a mushroom? Your hands, a knife, or an axe? The axe would be my last choice, simply because while it technically can do the job, it's going to be very unwieldy and likely to smash the mushroom rather than harvest it. My hands would be better, but a knife would be the best choice to ensure a clean cut and unblemished mushroom. Plus from a gameplay standpoint, the player is always going to have a knife on them, but not necessarily an axe. In any case, the better solution here would be to boost the harvest rate of the knife for plants, and perhaps lower it for the axe.
cjameshuff Posted May 7 Report Posted May 7 I do think the knife takes too long to harvest a mushroom. Realistically, this is a single slash motion...if it takes sawing, I question the edibility of what's being harvested. And maybe the axe should have a high failure rate. 1
