Proper animal pens

We've all experienced the pain of a fenced off animal farm being wiped out by a newly spawned wolf/bear inside, or the beasts just sliding through the fence. Fix it please. 

For starters make sure that the fence works properly and that animals can't glitch through, then make it so that we don't need to put two blocks of fence atop each other, not because it's unrealistic to have this high a fence, it's quite literally ugly, regardless of the fence type. 
Now here's a thing, make it so that the area of the enclosure calculates the blocks beneath it in as well up to 1 block below, and sets them to be unable to spawn any mobs (excluding rifts).
Afaik these will be enough to fix the problems.

The fences cannot be pathed over/through by anything but a player, AFAIK, so single-high fences should be fine.

Not as sure on the deal with things clipping through fences, though.

I think they can only spawn on proper grass so if you replace the flooring with packed dirt or something you'd be good

Personally, I go for 2 block high fences on the outside perimeter of my animal farm, with 1 block high fences on the inside. Never had a problem with wolves/hyenas/bears spawning inside my pens. But in the unlikely scenario one did manage to spawn in my farm, the damage is quite literally limited to 1 -2 pens, and that's it. My design will trap any and all predators.

Yeah, but that's still pretty annoying if you want to build a large pen that looks good rather than cram animals

sure but there's other materials you could use that aren't grass; sand or gravel perhaps

if you look at real life pens rarely do they have active live grass on the floor save for large meadows for cows, often it's dirt, woodshavings or something else covering the floors

It's a bit of a cop-out, but (for sheep, at least) I like to have a large, enclosed, grassy pasture that most of the flock/herd is kept in, and then a smaller "safe" pen with a male-female pair to repopulate with if the worst happens.

At least the places i've seen they are always dirt and manure. Issue is dirt turns into grassy soil naturally, and packed dirt looks like manure, which irl would mean diseas, smell and lack of respect towards animals, so not the most beautiful unfortunately. Also it becomes dirt since animals feed on grass, which isn't exactly a thing block games do
