bug with shift-click crafting?

I made 2 sets of 8 nails and strips, put 4 of those nails and strips in the my crafting box to make some chests, and divided a stack of 64 boards evenly into the crafting box (8 in each slot), hit shift and crafted.

It output 8 chests,  used all my planks and i still have 12 nails and strips leftover

forgot to specify my planks were all used up in the process

Shift-Click crafting is currently whacky and error-prone, so I'd assume something like this just goes on the pile aswell.

Yep, that's wrong; it's supposed to drop four chests and four bookcases. The other part of this is, people absolutely hate the "four chests and four bookcases" thing, so it sounds like somebody tried to fix it and made an error?

Yeah i was expecting a leftover of boards in my crafting grid. I tried the same proportions with things like cobblestone, and I get the leftover in my craft grid

Opposite happened to me. Divided a stack of boards, with 6 copper nail and strips. Shift clicked crafted them, and got 6 chests as expected, planning to finish the 6 iron nails and strips I had. Only the game finished the shift click crafting 2 book cases. Wasting board in the process, with no means to uncraft the book cases.
