One specific mod not loading for a player on my server and causing to crash to desktop

My friend is having trouble getting onto our server. She was able to get on previously but then tried joining a few week later and crashed, the error log saying "Don't know how to instantiate item of class 'ItemCorpseCompass' did you forget to register a mapping?" The item is from Dazu's Player Corpse forked https://mods.vintagestory.at/playercorpseforkedazu

Things we've tried:

  • deleting her server mods folder so it re-downloads
  • deleting her player information off the server
  • deleting my own server folder, letting it download, checking to make sure I can still connect fine, and then having her put my folder in place of hers
  • deleting and reinstalling her client

All of these had the same resulting crash log, which I've attached. It seems Player Corpse won't load for some reason, but there's no way for us to have disabled it somehow as the mods aren't in her client mods folder. She also has no client mods besides the base ones by Tyron. I tried opening a support ticket on the mod creator's github but they said it didn't seem like the issue was caused by the mod, so I don't really know what to do. :( I really want to be able to play with her.

Server and client version is v1.22.3 (stable)

Welcome to the forums! That does appear to be an older version of the mod, so you might want to try updating to the latest version, if possible, and see if that clears up the issue.

Have you made any changes to the server since she was last able to play? Game updates? Mod updates? New mods installed? Has she changed anything on her computer, either with the game or other software? The only other thing I can think of to check is the operating systems that your players use, as sometimes problems are specific to the OS(that is, certain bugs might occur on Linux but not on Windows), but I'm not sure this is a problem like that.

You may also want to check the server logs and other client log files, just to see if there's anything weird going on. Also, if it's not crashing immediately and she's able to play a little before it crashes, knowing what she's doing at the time of the crash might also be helpful, as sometimes that can hold clues to what's causing the crash.

I figured out how to fix it! I didn't check if she cleared all remaining files after install the first time she reinstalled the game, I had her delete the files VS leaves behind so you don't lose info and fresh installed it and that fixed the issue. I still have 0 idea what was causing it but I guess it was some kind of data in her client or something? I think the only info that would be relevant to the server would be map info.

For posterity: I asked the server host and he said he said he didn't think anything was updated during that time. It would also crash while it was loading her in, so she wasn't doing anything in game.
