Can trees you grow have resin?

My house is far from the nearest pine forest so I've planted a bunch of pine trees by it to try and get a closer source of resin. I've grown 3-4 dozen trees and so far haven't gotten a single leaking log with resin. Have I just gotten unlucky, or do leaking logs not spawn when you grow a tree from a pinecone?

To my knowledge that's your reason, at least as long as 1.16 did not change something about that (still playing in 1.15).

Ah, that's too bad. It would be nice if there was some kind of mechanism for tapping a tree to get resin.

There is a mod that allows you to score pine trees creating leaky pine logs.  Not sure the name of it, though.
