The Archive itself is somewhat interesting, but I agree on several points already raised: 1) It's difficult to maneuver around the microblocks in several areas, like the Commons. I actually got totally stuck in the corridor leading to the Bell room and had to creative mode-> mine it out. It's excessively claustrophobic. 2) Because of the above, weapon hitboxes end up weird. Slingstones bounce off invisible walls, spear won't connect. I see that in the overworld too but it's much worse here. My own additions: 3) The quest being unlocked SPECIFICALLY with a tin bronze pickaxe in your inventory is bleh. The game allows for varied recipes in other places. It should be any bronze. 3.5) Bears and Wolves go straight through early armor, which teaches the player not to wear it and to run from big fights. I'd been through 3 bearhide armor sets from incidental damage before I got my leather going. Leather is only a little better. I only have leather because of the Soap and Lye mod. 4) "That place is too dangerous for me" from the merchant isn't enough of a warning. This would be a great place to get a lore book and introduce that concept and to look for boney soil. Guidance seems to be that bronze equipment is the absolute minimum, and the experienced players I know recommend iron. The armor in the guardroom could be a hint at how dangerous the place is. 5) Maybe it's just my world settings, but I had to go VERY vertical to get there. I have a lot of spires that are unscaleable without ladders. The trek to get there wasn't too arduous, about 4200 blocks from base. Instead of inaccessible and distant, something smaller and closer to the merchant could be an introduction to the dangers. The only things I'd seen were bare bones ruins with a single pot or maybe 2 in them.
