Oh no I'd never go far as breaking my suspension of belief and gaining the ability of flight out of thin air. Hell, there should be an actual suicide button as long as you got a weapon in hand just like in No More Room In Hell, that way falling into a pit in the ground with no pickaxe and no dirt wont be a guaranteed slow painful and agonizing death. The only other reason for me to use the console is to do /land adminfreehere to remove property protections and steal Resonators from merchants and a Gamer chair/couch from Tobias. Yes, I am a horrible person with horrible ideas.

You know what? Temporal storms could just flat out only spawn the specific type of enemy that you would see in the layer you are in, just like how Terraria only spawns zombies (surface enemies) during a blood moon, give every mob higher drop rates as well so it's actually worth participating in. If you are underground then you will spawn a drifter of that layers specific tier and if you are at the bottom of the world you are guaranteed to get end game mobs going after you, high risk, high intensity, high reward, completely optional, lots of fun. This is the exact opposite of my experience with my first temporal storm while playing solo, I was hiding in a box that wasn't air tight because I wanted to look outside and I somehow got one shot by a double headed drifter I didn't even see and I NEVER encountered one ever again in that 100 hour playthrough. Insane. Dude. Just in case you didn't know there's a command you can do in the in game chat to end yourself and end your ordeal early "/kill". If you're trapped underground in complete and utter darkness thats the only thing you can do really. Also make an oil lamp to carry around, it's permanent and water proof. Press X (or Z?) to carry it in your offhand. All it requires is one animal fat and one clay bowl.

Best way to have two versions installed at the same time?
Bomboclaat replied to Bomboclaat's topic in Questions
Even though I (ChatGPT) already solved the issue in my own way, the "easy solution to my problem" I was looking for was exactly something like VS Launcher. Thank you very much! I appreciate the help. I will use it in the future once the next major update drops. I don't really want to have to rely on two separate launchers for the game forever either way! -
Best way to have two versions installed at the same time?

Never mind. I asked ChatGPT for help and it actually gave me quite a good solution with ".bat" files. I'll share em with you if you care to use em. For sure it will help some of you stuck on servers in older versions but also want to play on the current version at the given time as well. When running these .bat files always be sure to run as Administrator or you won't be able to access your save data The .bat files simply copies over the contents of the "VintagestoryData" folder backed up elsewhere with the "VintagestoryData" in Appdata\Roaming. I can now switch between the two versions of the game seamlessly on the click of an icon and keep my progress as well. My .bat file for running 1.20.12 - "VS 1.20.12.bat" @echo off REM Remove existing VintagestoryData link/folder rmdir "C:\Users\14077\AppData\Roaming\VintagestoryData" /s /q REM Link AppData\Roaming\VintagestoryData to the 1.20.12 folder mklink /D "C:\Users\14077\AppData\Roaming\VintagestoryData" "C:\Users\14077\Desktop\games\Vintage Story 1.20.12\VintagestoryData" REM Launch Vintage Story 1.20.12 start "" "C:\Users\14077\Desktop\games\Vintage Story 1.20.12\Vintagestory\Vintagestory.exe" exit My .bat file for running 1.21.0 - "VS 1.21.0.bat" @echo off REM Remove existing VintagestoryData link/folder rmdir "C:\Users\14077\AppData\Roaming\VintagestoryData" /s /q REM Link AppData\Roaming\VintagestoryData to the 1.21.0 folder mklink /D "C:\Users\14077\AppData\Roaming\VintagestoryData" "C:\Users\14077\Desktop\games\Vintage Story 1.21.0\VintagestoryData" REM Launch Vintage Story 1.21.0 start "" "C:\Users\14077\Desktop\games\Vintage Story 1.21.0\Vintagestory\Vintagestory.exe" exit How to make the .bat files run as Administrator every time without needing to right click Step 1: Save the batch files Save LaunchVersion1.bat and LaunchVersion2.bat somewhere safe (for example: C:\Games\Launchers\). Don’t put them directly on your desktop yet — shortcuts work better. Step 2: Create shortcuts Right-click each .bat file → Send to → Desktop (create shortcut). You’ll now see LaunchVersion1.bat - Shortcut and LaunchVersion2.bat - Shortcut on your desktop. Step 3: Force “Run as administrator” Right-click the shortcut → Properties. Go to the Shortcut tab. Click Advanced…. Check Run as administrator → OK → Apply. Now, double-clicking the shortcut will always launch as admin (no right-click needed). Hopefully someone will see this and solve their own or at least one other vintage gamers problem with this specific issue. -
Best way to have two versions installed at the same time?
Bomboclaat replied to Bomboclaat's topic in Questions
Okay I uninstalled the games and got a fresh install of both and they work just fine by themselves. Though when I tried to run Vintagestory together with VintagestoryData from the "Saved Games" folder instead of the "Roaming" folder, a new VintagestoryData appeared in Roaming. I assume the issue is conflict with 1.20 and 1.21 when it comes to the Vintagestory Data folder that they both share. How do I go about running the versions of the game while keeping those folders separate without making a new user profile on windows? I assume that's one solution but I don't want to do that. I don't want to repeatedly swap out VintagestoryData every time I run and close the game either. Admittedly this is probably a tough question, that's why I'm forced to ask for help but still... anybody got any ideas? Has this problem been solved here before already? *edit Ah yeah I remember Minecraft has a feature where you can seamlessly switch versions. Is that somehow possible to do yet for VS somehow or no? It doesn't have to be in game. -
After I updated from 1.20.12 to 1.21.0, I did just that. I merely put the install folder somewhere else. I did this because I want to play on a server that's still in 1.20.12 AND play by myself in 1.21.0. The issue is both VS 1.20.12 and 1.21.0 now runs with a significant delay in physics (I throw rocks and they freeze mid air and take seconds more to hit the ground instead of right away) and when items or blocks break they take a second or two to appear as their grabbable form instead of instantly, and when i knap stone the stone voxels starts regenerating for a bit before it decides to destroy itself and then finally turn into a knife. Vintage Story is originally Appdata/Roaming with the OG Vintage Story install file but on my second install I put the game in Saved Games as you can see in the images. I then swapped the "Vintagestory" install folders but they run just the same. I also never touched the "VintagestoryData" folder. I want to have my cake and eat it too when it comes to playing singleplayer on 1.21 and multiplayer on 1.20. How do I fix this? Would it be possible for me to move the VintagestoryData folder and have things still work? I am currently still messing around with things but hopefully someone here already has an easy solution to my problem.

If Terrain Generation worked like this no one would mistake this game for Minecraft again that's for damn sure. Not having to jump on to every block above me would be a relief as well. I wonder with all of the extra detail and generation how hard this would be to implement in game? Would this affect things like trees as well to make them more round or tree like? I know you mentioned the ruins already have some of that uneven terrain but considering the caves underground, things can get pretty insane, not just for worldgen but for players to straight up navigate. I'd like to see a modder try to tackle this concept, maybe it would become vanilla down the line but for now I would love to do a playthrough in a world like this. (I hope my 4060 would be able to handle it)

I figured out how to survive and thrive outside during temporal storms without even taking any damage, although it's quite cheesy, it works. Just hop in a large lake or the ocean or any large wide body of water and any enemy AI in the water will be confused and janky. Almost every enemy won't even go after you they will just swim around. Anyone who do come after you will be super slow as well and if they get close just swim left or right to dodge or let yourself sink and stab or slash them from below. You do have to watch your back for shivers and bowtorns are still the biggest threat, though they hardly attack either they still will every once in a while so watch out. In my second playthrough I'm in I went out during a heavy storm and the only reason I died was not due to any rift enemies, but close to the beach behind a birch bush near the sand a fucking GRIZZLY BEAR appeared out of the corner of my eye and tore me a new one, couldn't even swim away because water slows me down and didn't want to face the horrors back on land, I'm using the Rust and Rot mod to add more enemy types so shit's even freakier out there .

Temporal rifts are easy to deal with as long as you got leather or better armor, a decent weapon and a flat landscape so you can see and fight baddies much easier. Grinded a little for flax twines and gears early one morning by a desert rift portal, could have probably have done so throughout the day but I never actually tried that yet. None the less bullying drifters is always super fun and them making a "plap" sound when you hit them never fails to be funny to me.

Maybe in default settings it's difficult at first but I always customize the game so I can make decent progress and not deal with too much crap because I don't really have time for constant ball busting bullshit, thats something I well and truly love about the game. I even keep my stuff on death. Even got a mod (not sure if it's smithing plus or combat overhaul) that makes you make plate armor on the anvil with MUCH less materials and MUCH less time compared to my OG vanilla playthrough and I find that far more enjoyable than working night and day for an in game week or two for same result but from a crafting grid and with enough iron to make a whole ass car, not armor. None the less I'm enjoying the game regardless. I just wish that armor smithing system I used could become vanilla eventually.

Nah seriously there is actually an Exoskeleton mod and it actually kinda fits. It fit's the later "steampunk" themes of the game as well not to mention it's seemingly quite balanced. Of course something like this should always be very late/endgame content. I wouldn't mind it being in the game at all considering all of the other crazy technological stuff that's in there. *Just noticed the OP mentioned exoskeletons mod, my point still stands though, this mod kicks ass and fits like a glove. https://mods.vintagestory.at/exoskeletons

Holy crap that UI gave me a blast from the past and reminded me of Baurotrauma (or Quasimorph) (from about 2 or 3 years ago), it has a similar healing system from what you suggested, just look up Baurotrauma healing in google images and you'll see quite a few examples. Guess those types of healing systems aren't too uncommon. Kenshi also has a neat healing system where each limb along with leg head and stomach all have their own health bars and enough damage to any of those parts results in either a loss of limb or death, but I don't think broken or losing limbs would have any place in a block game. If it doesn't fit in the base game, these features would be super fun to deal with in a hardcore mode or as a specific game modifier (such as having cave-ins be optional) if ever implemented. These could all be in the normal base game in a suppressed state or different form such as limb damage (because I'm already dealing with enough crap in my current playthrough as it is) or entirely customizable like how the game already is.

Huge spoilers below you have been warned! If you're interested in story content haven't made it that far in don't bother with this thread until you've at least done so.

I like going out in Temporal Storms because I guess I'm crazy. I jump in the large lake behind my house to pick and choose the baddies floating around in the water to hunt with my Iron Flax. I did try fighting them on flat land during the last storm I was in but the only way I managed to survive after getting jumped a bunch of times was by hiding in a corner indoors and waiting for them to come to me every so often, not the best experience, but I guess that's how storms work. The worst part was that I barely got any loot out of it, and that's the only reason I go out during Temporal Storms. All I got was lowered armor durability. Perhaps the number of higher tier enemies spawning should correlate to the strength of the storm? Or places with higher light levels such a players house/base should only let weaker versions spawn in vise versa so theres a nearly guaranteed chance for Double Headed Drifters and what not to spawn in complete darkness or lower down by the mantle? I would like a more reliable way to find Jonas Parts. I'm just spit balling some ideas here. I'm trying to cover all of my sore points when it comes to temporal storms so they could be worthwhile and fun for everyone.

I'd imagine if flowing rivers were in the game you could use a Water Wheel/Water Mill to generate power and connect to your helve hammers etc, instead of using a windmill.
