I am 52, mentally broke from a job that nearly killed me, and I love VS for all its trials and tribulations. The way I see it its like a railway model, you start with a basic kit and have a basic train running on a basic line, then you add lines, you work in schedules, add trees and terrain and over years you have a scene setup, its not work as you slowly picked at each part, adding a bit here moving something there. This is VS to me, picking at the progression... never in for long enough to be a grind but still going forward, step by step... and enjoying each step.

At least dont need to strip to heal, I think its a good difference to complete heal in full plate to need to show off the skivvies to heal, as you still have movement issues in full plate so have the option to go full skivvie and run, but not needed to wall in just to heal, you can I guess but dont need to. Could do with another pass at some later time though, heal over time is ok but now we have no reason to not being in the best armour, the armour variety is wasted as most the game stuff needs the 'best in slot' stuff, there is no reason to use anything less. I will think on this issue a bit and suggest a change, its one thing I am decent at... ideas

I would say the one thing at this time is for the team to make Bears and Wolves/Hyenas a bit more vocal or mobile, damn ninja bears be sneaking up on me. I find it a bit hard a bear can 'sneak' up on anything, let alone a seraphin with headphones on... please add more noise and mobility to the animals, especially those that want to eat my bones. I also would love fishing, I am a bit of a waterbaby, I love water features near me in games, and so want to just chill at a pond after a day being chased by silent bears, and just fish on my chair and flip that nasty rift the bird, and quaff my wine/mead.

I should add that I think Hytale prospective players may find Vintage Story a close and friendly option to try out, the game is not just a clone, its much much more, a game that loves detail, you can jump on a bed and it will make you hop, you can skate on ice, you can grab snow and toss it at dummies... there is a lot more, I just dont want to ruin the fun. One piece of advice , dont punch a tree Welcome to all, we love to have you.

@ArtemisRM I respectfully disagree... I watch a few recent MC vids and it seems the idea is to make the game more, not harder per se, not more complicated, just more as in there is something lacking. For some of those the slow but meaningful progress is good, as in it is kind of hard but not crazy hard, just means you potter about and slowly pick at the progress. The hardest part is really making a farm to keep the animal alive, you are such a beast I mean if you get a farm going the rest is something you can do at your time, heck I played a time where I had ores and food for days but come winter I was skating on the pond, tossing snowballs at the dummies or jumping on my bed, I was fed just the winter was tough for me at the time. I like this as winters are usually a time of boredom, or a time where you make time for the crazy stuff... I was the best at tossing snowballs at my dummies, not one could beat me...wait I am not crazy, hey come here.. where you going

The new features, including reefs will generate only in new areas, and the new world gen tweaks may include chunk smoothing, as in it may look very odd as the game tries to knit the chunks together.

I just installed the preview version to a different directory, and while settings and my old game are present, I just made a new world and tested it. I have 2 versions of the game but they do share aspects, as those are in the %APPDATA% sections. still doesn't break either copies so I guess its safe to test the pre 1 but dont plan to make a long term world based on the pre 1 version, it may be fine but it may totally ruin it in later versions. That said I found the lack of ocean to be odd, I ran a world with the default and despite running around for days found no ocean, I started a new world again and changed it 70% land 300% landform, and still not found the oceans. The game runs fine even with some mods (Simple HUD is ok, but trying to add the config caused a report crash so yeah play with caution), but generally runs like a normal run so far.

I am hesitant to add to this as I am not competent regarding none x86 architecture CPU's, but cursory research suggests the issue is with compatibility with the CPU as well, a ARM chip lacks a lot that the x86 chips have as standard, and typically is bypassed by translating the relevant calls, this leads to issues where niche calls can be overlooked or simply not included. In short I think your CPU may not have the compatibility required to run the game. The game is designed on a more open to the public system of libraries as in OpenGL and OpenAL, probably a library like SDL2 or SFML... open libraries that are not mainstream, so may get skipped by compatibility coders for more mainstream application. I would either refund, or look for none official patches for compatibility, check your compatibility softwares community pages to see if there is some open sourced patches, or put up a reddit thread in a relevant compatibility software section for unofficial patches for your compatibility software. Sorry I couldn't help much.

Yes they can spawn in your buildings, anywhere not properly lit, especially if a rift forms near your house. You do need to have decent lighting indoors. You dont need to be all torches, as a oil lamp (fat + clay bowl) is good enough for small spaces like early game cellars. They love cellars and attics

Considering the information given, I would guess its the GPU, research how compatible your Qualcomm(R) Adreno(TM) X1-85 GPU is with OpenGL (which is what Vintage Story uses).

I know Knapster, it autoplaces the voxels if you right click, it does have the time penalty but renders all forming and smithing to simply hold right click while watching a YT vid. I dont hate the mod, just the idea of it being in the base game even as a option... as in why would you not use it if its in the base game option ?

Best survival game and probably one of the best in general

I got more odd combo, I play LoL ARAM ... and VS, and I am a fossil (52) for the youngsters ... I still school the kids in ARAM -
I suggest disabling all mods except the base VS mods, and creating a new world and see if the issue persists. It may be a mod issue but the CTD suggests a bigger issue and it may help to at least establish a base... if the game runs fine sans mods, then check the mod database for new versions, enable mods one at a time... time consuming yes, but at least you can determine a base level. You can run all the tests on a new world, or back up copy your current world, I suggest a new world as you dont want to mess up a long running world to test on. Thats what I do, have a test world and run mods that are possibly out of date there and see what happens.

I read this, and do have to admit it irked me, because this type of thinking is what I think is the antithesis of what Vintage Story is trying to achieve, VS is not a odd clone of Minecraft and is a game about striving to achieve at the basic level... or we would be able to have a crafting window for all items, who wants to sit and manipulate tiny voxels, just drag some clay into a craft window and poof storage vessel, nice and easy. I dont mind/care what mods do to other players game, they can mod as much as they want as it doesn't effect my game but to ask a mod that basically makes clay forming and smithing redundant to be a part of the base game is now effecting my VS game. We have a game that simplifies crafting, its called Minecraft, I am sorry to be so nasty but Vintage Story is about details and details means paying attention to those details, to a reasonable degree, as in it is still a game, but to ask to take out aspects that make the game a bit of a struggle in the base game is asking too much. Mod the game all you want, but lets leave the base to be what it was meant to be, a rich and detailed journey from surviving to thriving where each step is a challenge and a joy to beat each challenge. Maybe I am wrong in my definition of Vintage Story, its possible.

Wouldn't work too well in the internet era, the little guy vs big bad corpo is far more palatable to the average gamer, even a huge streamer trying to sell that MS was just doing the right thing would hurt the streamers bottom line. Look at Nintendo and its legal fun, Nintendo has now gained a reputation of being super litigious, to the point its a hard sell to be a Nintendo focused content creator, sure there still are those but the majority tend to diversify so as to not crash if they get got.
-
True but the public opinion would turn nasty, nothing gets the masses going than some big corpo trying to close down the little guy, imagine the mess if some MC YT/Stream guys told the viewer what MS was trying to do, the backlash would be insane.

Now I want to stress I am not accusing any mod of doing anything, I am just curious as my experience using mods that alter worldgen seems to generate maps with odd resource issues. I came up with a potential reason for this, or I am just very unlucky, that the mods do the smoothing/altering after the game has generated and then seeded the world so you get worlds oddly lacking medium soil or wild crops... which is something I experienced a lot trying to get a more smoother worldgen via mods. I want to stress I am not blaming any mod, I am just curious when does the mod do its 'smoothing/altering' ? After or before seeding resources, can a mod alter the world before the world has seeded resources? I am just asking out of curiosity, to eliminate that little nagging thought. I appreciate mods and the people that make them, I use a number and feel many make my game better.

What kind melee combat improvements are even possible with the engine?
FlareUKCS replied to MagpieOAO's topic in Discussion
A right click melee attack for melee weapons, like a slow heavy attack 2xdamage but takes 2xtime to 'cast' and slows you by 50% (so you cant just hit and run easily), that wouldn't complicate things too much as spears have a left and right click option (stab vs throw). -
No objection from me, love the current attention to detail would love moar

Tyron mentioned a world tweak in the 21 preview build, so the devs are looking at worldgen but I am sure it isn't a simple fix as there could be a danger of making worldgen too samey, as in each and every world feels the same, but the team seems to be trying to find a nice balance. Tweak: Majorly reworked landforms to be more easily traversable. Warning: Will produce terrain smoothing between old chunks and new chunks I tried some worldgen mods, like plains and valleys, and tera prety but the worlds tend to look good but lack vital resources, like getting miles of nice flat areas to build but no medium soil, or flat areas with medium soil and no wild plants (last one I tried had only Rye, nothing but Rye...each and every wild crop was bloody Rye. I think it may be due to the mods smoothing the bumps from the worldgen and taking off surface resources as a result, but that is a guess. It depends when the seeding is done versus the mod smoothing the terrain I would guess. But the point of my post is that the team seem to be aware of worldgen aspects, and looking at fixes.

Very much doubt Mojang would allow a lawsuit, MC itself is heavily inspired by Infiniminer, and while MS owns Mojang they dont own the idea of voxels, even low poly voxel games. The fallout would hurt MC a lot as gamers get rather irritated regarding lawsuits (unless its blatant). MC and VS appeal to different markets for the most part, MC is more broad appeal while VS is more niche.

Wasn't Tyron part of the Hytale game development until he went his own way ?

Yes, a chiselled block still has collision. There are some odd rules for chiselled blocks pertaining to room detection that you will probably like to find out about, but for your current needs it will sort out your issue.
-
I always figured it was because no one wants to spark (The Other Block Game) TOBG vs VS discussion. I like both but for different reasons, one allows you to get going at speed not worrying about details, the other relishes the details. I exclusively play VS now but not because its better but because I enjoy all the attention to detail VS offers.

Since 1.20 if water gets onto any mold (like rain for example) that has hot metal in it, the mold will break and the metal will be in pieces.
