I think the devs just wanted more people to fish. They've completely replaced early game food from berries to fish with out easy it is. -
Wolves don't hunt humans so this behavior should be axed anyway. Typically wolves will clear out an area if they even catch a whiff or hear distant talking.

You said before that your "combat days are over" so your opinion on it doesn't matter. You have the option to turn it off so do that and let everyone who actually cares about it work it out.
