  1. 1. I do not think the phrase 'RPG elements' is so well universally understood to mean certain specific features and not other features at a level where a person would understand EXACTLY what features you are refering to specifically. I also do not think you personally hold the concrete well understood definition of exactly what those features are. 2. Just to be clear and simple, I am saying I think all the features you mentioned in the section of your large post I listed where never mentioned or hinted in in Hytale. Am I incorrect? ADDED: according to AI, A 'RPG' does not have to have a skill system, quest system, lore, story, or various 'species' of 'races'
  2. what do you mean 'to share'? do you mean come into my game and play the same dungeon? or do you mean a blueprint to copy said dungeon into your instance of the game anywhere you want? can you expand on what you mean by the phrase exactly?
  3. I am not complaining other than to say I have zero idea from your post which ideas you have are from Hytail and which ones are not. That is all, nothing more. anyway, its too abstract for my small brain to follow and I think everyone has a slightly different definition of 'RPG elements' let alone knowing WHICH elements they would be referring to specifically so I am tapping out on this one.
  4. This was hard to follow in the context of the list being similar to Hytale feature list (which I admit I have not seen). Example: Section called 'Fun Progression': 1. You seem to be listing things you would find interesting in VS and how VS would do things you are interested in but not really mentioning which one of those things is a HyTale suggested feature. 2. I have no idea what 'RPG' 'elements' means. That could mean a natural skill progression like Wurm Online or it could mean a Perk System like 7 days to die or it could be something not related to skill system it all, it could mean Lore, it might mean story focused, it could mean quest based. Its all far too abstract for my old brain to process. oh and as side note: What has always grinded my gears even I was a very young man is applying the word 'race' to what is actually a 'species'. Example: The 'Human Race', humans are a species of mammals not a race. Anyway, I know everyone does it and always complain about it because that is what I do.
  5. I am asking a question, not making a point. Please type out what you think my 'point' is because again I am asking a question here, not making a point
  6. the assertion I am trying to address (and forgive me if who said what is being confused by me) is the following: I am unclear as to why traditional old school MMO quest system is universally understood to not be a good match in a...block game...BECAUSE..its a block game.
  7. What makes you think Tyron Intelligence (as you say) in being able to understand what an MMO is and how it works (as you say) sways him away from ever making a block game in such a traditional MMO way BECAUSE its a block game? I am not sure who made the core assertion I am addressing but here is the core assertion I am addressing 'traditional quest based MMO would not make sense in a block game' I do not understand that assertion and I do not think its even true.
  8. guys.. there is nothing magical about a game being a block game that implicitly means it should never work as an MMO. That is not a widely understood rule and its likely just been made up here in this conversation. 'Understanding how an MMO works' and 'understanding that one is not supposed to make a block game ever work like an MMO' are two COMPLETELY different conversations and the later is not even remotely true.
  9. no I think I am going to walk away from this conversation. Sorry I got involved.
  10. that is a generalized abstract implied understanding at best. I do not think one can safely assume all companies making block games understand that as a hard written explicit no-no. I do not know if 'hard questing' is the plan or not. I do think however story will be more important in this upcoming title than in the core game. Exactly HOW that is expressed I really am not even going to guess
  11. 1. you said (quote): 'You (meaning me) make questing seem to be a bad thing'. I am trying very hard to explain that I do NOT see questing as a bad thing. 2. The reason for me pointing out that the grandfather of block games made a story mode (regardless of it that is 100% accurate) is because of your quote: 'a quest system would not make sense in a block game'. I do not know why you would come to that conclusion. This all said, I am rapidly getting tired of this exchange p.s. the game is called Vintage STORY. forgive me in assuming that the creators of this game are a fan of making stories into games. I do not see how it would be a problem or how it would not work in a block based game given they have already done a storyline in a block based game called..Vintage STORY
  12. there is some confusion, let me try to make it as clear as I can. 1. They stated that they were not pleased with how the story worked out. That is all that was stated, I am not going to presume what that specifically means other than they were not happy with it. I am not going to speculate as to WHAT specifically they were not happy with. 2. I played EQ2 for at least 5 years nearly every day. I do not know where you got the idea that I think questing in an RPG is a bad thing. I am stating that I am willing to bet this new version will be heavy on questing because its a good way to reveal a story. How you got 'I think any kind of questing is bad' out of that is beyond me. 3. The new VS mode is going to be basically 'an entirely different game' as well and in fact the Minecraft story is literally called 'Story MODE' Given what we know about this new game A. RPG B. Fantasy setting C. Different aesthetic. I have no opinion on what I want in the game because I personally am not interested in those things, I used to years ago but I am not any longer. That is NOT to say those things are bad, just that I am not interested. I am only sharing my predictions. P.S. in EQ2 it is basically impossible to play the game and progress without doing questing. I am NOT saying that is a bad thing, but I would define that as 'heavy on questing' which I what I mean by 'heavy on questing' just 'having' questing is not 'heavy on questing'. Making it hard to impossible to progress in the game is 'heavy on questing'. Does that clear things up a bit?
  13. 1.The latest update they have made some alterations to the main story quests because 'we were not happy with how the story part of the last update worked out' 2. If VS currently is NOT a RPG, then why would we think a RPG version of it would not have quests because there are blocks in it? Is that more of a wish or a prediction made out of foundation? keep in mind, the grandfather of all block games has a 'story mode'
  14. or maybe..just hear me out a second...maybe. To progress in the game you do a series of quests and those quests have text and in that text has critical information that if you miss you will not be able to finish the question in the proper sequence or solve various puzzles. Why would I ever think high quest focus would be RPG?..well anyway, I just played EQ2 so I dont know. Anyway, maybe the quests will all become tightly linked and even though it is possible to 'play' the game without questing its really an unrelastic option. perhaps exactly like EQ2 which is a RPG
  15. Yeah I am not going to touch that rail but I will say this much related to my reasoning as to why my bet in on heavier on story. The hint is in the name of the game Vintage Story. Is the team extremely satisfied with how the story of Vintage Story turned out?
  16. To everyone: Just to be clear, I know the difference between lore and story. What I was basically saying is that people seem to be arbitrarily applying their own personal definition as to what is or is not RPG and unless the devs chime in we really do not know. My personal bet is heavy on story, my reason for that is actually not related to my personal definition of the term RPG its just a bet, the reasoning itself I would prefer to not get into
  17. I do not know how we get 'rich with lore' but not 'story based' from the the phrase 'RPG' but here is my take. -RPG for the old school D&D players = character stats, turn based combat, skill progression -RPG for the new school so called AAA space that has high jacked the term = story based. -RPG 'lore based'? 'story based? well it could mean this, or that, or what I think it should be etc etc. That said for reasons I do not want to enumerate in detail I think specifically for this game and this specific team, I think the new mode is going to be more story based than the existing modes. If I was a betting man that is what I would bet on, however in concrete terms none of us really know.
  18. I am more interested in game mechanics. Crafting, building etc. As such 'a fantasy setting RPG style that has a different aesthetic' is too vague for me, I need more information. With that said, if they had said they are making a game that is steampunk tech in space I would be very curious. But 'fantasy setting RPG style' likely means, story based which I am not interested in. I will have to wait and see but at this time I am in NFG mode.
  19. like I said. Pretty much word for word what Keen said about Medieval Engineers. Now to be fair the project that got hurt was not Space Engineers it was Medieval Engineers. Regardless of all of that, as long as I can download various major stable releases of the game up to this point then I am fine and not concerned. I am also however just not interested in this other project. I have not read anything specific that I find personally compelling for me. Another example is 7 Days to Die. I love that game, I played it for about 1500hrs but once they started making major changes by adding Perk system and the like then I really really really no longer enjoyed the game, but as long as I can still download the older versions I am all good. I can not control what happens in the future, sometimes things go well, sometimes they don't but I sure do like being able to download previous versions
  20. everyone keeps refering to this 'great plan' I would like to know more details. All I know thus far is 1. more RPG focused 2. more high fantasy focused. 3. aesthetic change. Speaking personally I have zero interest in any of those. I am not complaining I am just saying I plan to stick to 'classic' VS, thanks.
  21. Well speaking personally, I am not interested in this other project given what few things we know about it. From my view as long as I have access to the stable version of today and as long as the Dev community keep having all previous mod versions available then I am all good. Big changes always comes with risk. Keen did EXACTLY the same thing with Medieval Engineers. Multiple great streaming shows have been completely changed due to a writers change. Maybe if I knew more details about this other game I would be interested but for me the word 'RPG' in the modern context almost always mean 'story focused' which I could not possibly be less interested in.
  22. night starts a midnight? ok this conversation is over.
  23. The monsters start to spawn in your area around 18:00. They start to walk away from your base around 07:00 You can get them to despawn/walk away faster by running out of your base past about 32 chunks before 7am but I doubt one could do that around 1am. The upgraded beds have a long time set on them SPECIFICALLY for this reason. I have heard these points mentioned in multiple online videos and I have never experience it being otherwise in about 1500 hours of my game play in multiple files and multiplayer
  24. the monster spawns that throw rocks and spears at you for the evening last longer than 7 hours. They do not leave within 7 hours, not even remotely. In fact, that reality is WHY the other upgraded bed last longer for sleep
