For myself specifically I can not go back to playing Minecraft. Any drive I had for minecraft has fully been replaced by VintageStory.
Now for hate, I believe a lot of people who have now played VS dislike minecraft for two reasons. The Minecraft development compared to VS development is heavily lacking, shallow, and so minimal it really feels like the minecraft devs really do not care about the full community anymore. Everything is being targeted towards young children, which is baffling because the main minecraft community is between 15-30 years of age. So marketing the game more towards 6-8 year olds does not make sense to the community.
But the Main Hate comes directly at Microsoft. The game is being dragged down by microsoft into a money farming slop machine. They are making bedrock worse and worse each update adding far more bugs to the game that they constantly state will never be fixed. The list of game breaking bugs in bedrock that they have marked as low priority is absolutely wild in the volume. Hardcore was added to the game but spontaneous death was never fixed. So a large case for hardcore players losing their worlds is randomly dying while doing nothing.
The other thing is coming this August Java is getting an engine update that will make it that every mod for Java that isn't a basic texture pack, will no longer work. This is being rolled out along with the Java Marketplace, so all free mods will be broken, but now a pay for mod place will be open. The EULA was changed two months ago giving Microsoft and Mojang express permission to read you files, and if any unrecognized or modified files are found they have permission to prevent your game from launching. They say this is to prevent cheaters, except it in no way affects most cheat engines, all it does is allow them to stop you from using free mods by adding it to your game files or running a mod launcher.
So the fact that they have set up permission to stop your game from launching free mods not on the marketplace, ahead of them adding a new update that will break all free mods while also adding a new marketplace, shows such a deep level of corruption in the company that I can fully understand why people Hate on Minecraft.
I mean Minecraft's own social media pages mostly post about new addons that are often stolen or terribly optimized, instead of actually talking about what work they are doing
Compare that with the VS dev team, who are openly transparent and happy to hear community feedback as well as continuing their own vision of the game, and the contrast is too great.
My Nephew loves playing minecraft, and I play with him because he wants me to. But personally I am really not having a good time with the game, only enjoying entertaining my nephew before he gets too bored after 30min of playing minecraft.
