  1. There was a discussion on the VS Discord about this topic. I hope that these changes suggest a step toward more keyhole farming methods. Imagine farms with compost piles or the ability to actually have aquaculture. I can see myself already walking through my food forest. Berries were just simply the best means of producing alcohol in the whole game; they completely overshadowed whiskey or vodka. Easy to plant, easy to harvest, easy to process; do not even get me started on how abundantly they occur within the flora of most regions. Berries are the undeniable cask kings, these changes try to alleviate that, whilst maintaining consistency with other fruit bearing crops.
  2. I absolutely agree, roasting termites is how many cultures actually enjoy the little fellers. A little documented use of roasted termites was actually in the production of bread; some cultures would roast and dry the termites, grind them up, and then add them to their other grain crops to get the most out of their food. I like the idea of expanding the Termitomyces species across the whole warmer regions, I mean they are found all the way from Africa to Asia. I feel like berries in the southern regions need more work; there are literally no southern only berries. LIKE WHAT?!?!? A lot of the reliable, forageable plants our species depending on in Africa, were berries. Unrelated, but I would also like to see a way to produce royal jelly in the game. It would give an additional use to bees, while also kinda fitting the buggy aesthetic. It is world revered as a delicacy, being by far the most expensive item produced by bees, aside from specialty honeys, this is the literal nectar of kings.... well queens. Queen bees are exclusively fed this rich, milky honey-like substance. ROYAL JELLY
  3. I always thought Termitomyces felt SUPER Vintage Story, I mean a group of insects evolves such a dependence on farming, even we get to benefit. WHAT ELSE WOULD BE MORE VINTAGE STORY! I am not opposed to finding them in the dryer areas either, but obviously they would be much rarer.
  4. My thoughts exactly! Termitomyces species are so common, they can be found all over the Old World. There are species in Africa, Asia, even the Middle East! Now we just gotta get them to surpass the digital barrier....
  5. Ooooo my mouth waters for em, especially after waiting so long for them to grow back. Hopefully, I will be able to munch them on a stick and not plunge them into homelessness.
  6. One that I have not quit, mind you! Termites are fascinating organisms, with many unique and interesting adaptations, how could you keep yourself from it?!
  7. cakes would be awesome, maybe we could have a termite cake as well!
  8. WE NEED TERMITES..... is probably not what you would expect anyone to say, except me. MAIN SUGGESTION With fishing being added, I propose actually adding the functionality of using a stick to gather the termites; allowing for another farmable source of bait in the southern regions. The termites on a stick item is already in the base game, so we could just add functionality to it; maybe you could combine resin, glue, or honey with a stick to get a sticky one, then cut a hole in the mound with a knife, and gather them with the sticky stick. You could hold right click to pick them off or maybe scrape them off with a knife for a faster result, but making you lose the resin coating. You could represent this resin coating with a durability value of 5 or 10. It could be useful when used in conjunction with breaking the mound, allowing you to gather more termites from a mound, at the cost of breaking the hive. ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS Ant mounds could be a useful way to implement the same functionality in low moisture, temperate areas; allowing a player to gather bait if they spawn within a temperate area, in the form of ant larvae. Termites should also be food for chickens, considering chickens absolutely love the things in real life. Something I have always wondered is where are all the termites at in the jungle? A good way to implement this is with much rarer, much larger termite mounds in these areas. I think a good way to make these memorable, is by inoculating them with a species of TERMITOMYCES. This mushroom is revered as a delicacy around the world; being directly linked to the termites that grow its mycelium, this mushroom grows after large amounts of rainfall and could be a fun way to implement a primitive form of mushroom farming. I recommend Termitomyces Titanicus; being the largest, its fruit could function similar to a pumpkin. THE REAL REASON IM WRITING THIS I really enjoy the termites in the game, I have always been fascinated by them; IMHO, they are one of the coolest parts of doing a southern playthrough. That being said, their use, although limited, I do really appreciate. It's just that farming them is not really feasible as they take so long to grow back; when playing on a server with longer month or day times, their long growth timer is even LONGER, making them extremely hard to propagate for very little reward. I think termites deserve justice; if nobody else will fight for these little guys, I will!
