I cant figure out how to do LAN or a public server

I love this game so much, I bought it for my wife so we could play on a lan together. She cant connect. I really dont understand why. Ive changed switches, i can ping her computer fine. Ive let vintage story through both of our firewalls. I did port forwarding for port 42420 to try and open a public server, but it would either say my router didnt have UpnP enabled (it does) or that it couldnt connect to the master server.

If anyone has advice or suggestions, Im open to it.

UPDATE: figured it out, I had disabled the block rules on my firewall but i had to go and create new allow rules for the public profile. I feel dumb lol, but to be fair it shouldnt be this involved to set up a server imo. Also the LAN connection still isnt working, only the public advertised server ip works, but im sure it has something to do with my end. Hope this maybe helps someone in the future.

I would love to see an answer for this too. Granted we're not very tech savvy, but DH and I could not get it to work either (even with help from discord members, although that was several years ago with much fewer players than now). Fingers crossed that someone has a solution!

Make Sure UPNP is enabled in your router. Should be by default but some don't somtimes. but also if you're connecting to LAN, she needs to type in your Local IP address in the address when adding the Multiplayer Server. I'm also going to assume she is within the same LAN network as you and she isn't at another building or something.

Open your single player game press ESC and hit "Open to LAN". after that. have her connect to your Local IP address. should be something along the lines of 192.168.x.xxx

Hope this helps.

Do you use anything unique on your network because. I'm having 0 issues doing everything I posted in the previous message. the only thing left is either something is on your network like a firewall, or one of the end points is refusing to connect to either.

nothing unique that i can think of. both pcs are connected to a switch which is connected to the router. ive tried swapping the switch, and i disabled all block rules for vintage story on both windows firewalls. thats why im so confused because ive done everything i can think of that could be an issue.

ive ran a lan server with a different game and a different router before, but we moved and i got all new networking stuff.

If her Computer has an Anti-Virus running in the Background, have her try shutting it off and then try to connect.

I know it sounds weird, but this was the Issue I was having with Kaspersky while trying to connect to my Wife's Server.

no av software on either computer other than windows defender
