Does Going far far south eventually hit an Artic area?

Like the title says. In a playthrough that we were doing one of my friends was saying that they wanted to go further south so that they eventually hit Antarctica but I'm not sure if the game works like that? I know that going north it gets colder and going south it gets warmer but is the map rounded enough for it to get cold again? Just asking so its not a waisted trip cause they genuinely think its a thing.

Yes, it does work like that The game accurately simulates climate zones and latitudes. At the poles, you will even have polar nights (where the sun won't rise for several months) and days (where the sun won't set for several months).

Assuming the climate setting is NOT set to "Patchy" which will produce a minecraft like world of patchwork climates shotgun blasted all over the world.
