StaryPierdziel Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 I got some chickens and they just gone missing. No corpses, no way for them to simply escape my farm. I suspect it's the light issue. I tried to lighten their home, but it's not helping as it happened again. I'm even able to tell that it is the oldest (according to accommodation time) group of chicken that disappear first. I don't mind losing them to wolves or something (I do mind, but at least I know, what to do about that), now I just want to get rid of that annoying mechanic of "darkness despawning". Is there a command or something to deactivate that, or at least a possibility it will be added to the game?
LadyWYT Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 Is it both hens and roosters that go missing, or just roosters? If it's the latter, the roosters are killing each other(there can only be one per flock), and I don't believe they leave bodies behind when that happens. 3 hours ago, StaryPierdziel said: Is there a command or something to deactivate that, or at least a possibility it will be added to the game? I don't think there's a command for it currently, though I could be wrong. It's possible that it could be added as a setting option later, although that's up to the developers. In regards to mods, this one might let you change that particular spawn rule: https://mods.vintagestory.at/configureeverything
Thorfinn Posted July 22, 2024 Report Posted July 22, 2024 I think if the roof is "Layer of Sticks", that lets in enough light to reset the despawn timer.

Hal13 Posted July 31, 2024 Report Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) it seems to only be chickens that are affected (as of 1.18.15). had a hen and a rooster in a room and a few days later they were gone, even though the room is lit. my sheep don't care. Edited July 31, 2024 by Hal13
StaryPierdziel Posted August 13, 2024 Author Report Posted August 13, 2024 For anyone interested. That's how my chickenhouse looked like. I added more oil lamps (4 instead of 2), but most importantly, I made a 1x1 "window" hole in the back (behind the pillar), and covered it with a crude fence (the room had only one entrance for natural light by then). Since then I had no more problems with disappearing chickens. 1
