smith Posted October 20, 2024 Report Posted October 20, 2024 Bears and wolves run away cowardly until they die at 1.20, just throw lots of spears at them. It's just insulting to animals, especially in survival mode.
Snowydeath11 Posted October 22, 2024 Report Posted October 22, 2024 Animals typically do this when gravely injured and did it in 1.19 as well as far as I can remember. They also do this in real life in case you've never encountered a wild animal.

Ohhh, I haven't experienced this yet so I didn't know, sorry for making the assumption that you were talking about them running like they used to!
redram Posted October 24, 2024 Report Posted October 24, 2024 This is pretty much a matter of tuning. What was done, was that it was made so that mobs - upon being damaged, if the player is not in their detection range - they run in a random direction. This is meant to prevent what used to be the case, where they would just stand in place and get hit over and over. At least if they move immediately, you have to re-adjust your aim. So, it's kind of a matter of finding the perfect balance of detection range and targeting (in)accuracy. Right now our focus is still on getting the rest of the update (the story part) completed, so we're slower than normal on addressing the bug reports this time around. 2

Thorfinn Posted October 24, 2024 Report Posted October 24, 2024 Huh. Just last night, I did the same thing with wolves, and about a third of the time they ran towards me. Bears, could be. I hammered out an agreement with bears in my world. I run, and they don't catch me. Works for us. But that could still be just fine-tuning. The flee percentage might be set too high. More likely, the behaviors were re-coded, and the old numbers don't have the same meaning in the new algorithm. If I had a nickel... 1
