Hello all. First time posting here. I'm fairly new with 20 or so hours in the game. I've played a couple builder single player games over that time as I've learned the ropes. I finally felt like I had a good enough handle on the game to start fresh with a survival world and some mods. I downloaded about 10 mods and went to create a new world, but i spawned in with no terrain around me. I would then fall into the void and die. I quickly switched to creative in order to fly and see if it was just spawn that hadn't generated, but its the whole world. I then deselected all of the mods and tried again but its still just spawning me in the open air with no chunks to be seen. Has anyone dealt with this before and if so, what caused it and subsequently fixed it?

Welcome, @DirtyLeftBoot!

Heard several people report the same thing. Don't recall that anyone knew what cause the problem, but the solution seemed to be more or less starting without mods (or only those mods they knew did not cause issues) and add mods in order of preference until they figured out what was causing the problem.

Unfortunately, few ever posted back what the problem turned out to be.

My suggestion (knowing nothing about you modlist) is to disable about half of them, then start a new world and see if the problem persists. If so, select half of those and try a new world. Etc.

If you post your modlist, maybe we could help...

Thank you for responding @Thorfinn!

I went through and deactivated them all (I think. I just unchecked all of them except for the three core codes.) and it won't even generate any landmass still. It should be vanilla since they are all deactivated.

I downloaded and originally activated: Better Firepit, Buzzwords, BetterRuins, From Golden Combs, Hanging Oil Lamps, HUD Clock, More Animals, Nails and Strips Clay Mold, Plains and Valleys, Prospect Together, Rivers, Sticks From Firewood.

There were a few that I downloaded and then realized they didn't work with 1.19.8, so stayed unchecked: Stone Quarry, Extra Overlays, Auto Map Markers

Assuming you started a new game after deactivating all mods: if it still won't generate a world, backup any previous save files you care about(ie, move them to a folder outside Vintage Story), and reinstall the game. Then move any world files back into the proper folder. Before loading any mods, try starting a new game and see if the problem persists--you should be able to generate worlds. Assuming the problem is fixed, then you can see about reinstalling mods, but if not then you'll want to open a support ticket, most likely.

If I recall correctly, someone else had similar issues before, and reinstalling the game worked. The reason I recommend a complete reinstall is that if a mod happened to corrupt a critical part of the code, a reinstall will refresh everything. In regards to installing mods, while you can install a bunch at once(admittedly this is what I tend to do), it's better to install one at a time and test to make sure each works correctly before installing another--makes it much easier to weed out problem mods. Additionally, while mods for older versions can work on newer versions, it's usually best to try to stick to mods that are updated for whichever version of the game you are playing. As for how to determine whether an older mod will work or not, aside from testing...if the part of the game it modifies hasn't really changed since that version, it probably will work.

Interesting. So I decided to follow yalls advice but wanted to try one more time before I deleted the game and redownloaded. I reloaded the mods page with them all deselected and tried a new save; it failed. Interestingly I think whatever was causing the problem was somehow filling the air in caves with stone and changing the natural stone into air because I saw a few stone worm things this time. I then restarted the game for a final try and it loaded fine without any mods, which is weird because I've restarted the game like 5 times before this. I think reloading the mods page followed by the game restart might have been what fixed it. Im going to start slowly adding the mods back and let you guys know if/when it happens again and with what mod.

Okay, I think I figured it out. Really unfortunately, its Rivers, which was one of the mods I was most excited about. I'm going to play around with it to see if I can get it to work, but if not, I'll just have to do without.

That's a bit odd. Rivers shouldn't cause any problems like that. Are you using the appropriate mod versions? Both, Rivers and Plains and Valley offer 1.20 releases as the most recent versions and if you use the download button in the description tab it'll download the latest file available, which may lead to incompatibilities.
