Never Jhonsen Posted November 16, 2024 Report Posted November 16, 2024 I can't seem to make soup with pickled vegetables, and I can only use 0-1 pickled vegetables in porridge. I looked on both the food preservation and cooking Wiki pages, but I saw no mention of pickled vegetables being different. On the Cooking wiki, under "Meal Food Values", it says Quote Pickled variants of listed ingredients can be used, but provide only their tooltip-listed food value, without gaining any bonus from meals. Which gives me the impression that I CAN use these as regular veggies, I just don't get as much from them as their fresh counterparts. Is this a normal game feature, or did I find a bug? I have no mods that modify foods. I DO have the Better Firepit mod, but that should only affect temperatures of stacked items; I don't think that could be causing an issue here.
Mallice Posted November 17, 2024 Report Posted November 17, 2024 I am speaking theoretically here, but isn't it because the pickled veggie is a topping or small addition and not the main part of the meal? In the screens you provided, working with the pickled vegetables only work when they are less than the main ingredient. It would make sense that the meals only work when there's a small adition of brined veggies. I can't really tell if it's supposed to work like that or not though, I never pickle anything!
LadyWYT Posted November 17, 2024 Report Posted November 17, 2024 To my knowledge, pickled vegetables can't be used in recipes like fresh ones can, at least in the vanilla game as of the time of this writing. I'm not sure if there is a mod that changes that, but I'd wager there probably is. As to why you'd want to pickle vegetables anyway, despite not being able to use them like fresh vegetables--they keep for much, much longer than fresh, and are used in the cheese-making process.

I'll bet money that Expanded Foods mod will do everything imaginable and more. It's a massive increase to cooking.

Good question! I'm not sure; I don't see anything on the Wiki or the game documentation to indicate that it's a topping. Usually when I cook with my pickled stuff, I just throw 24 into a pot and cook a very hearty veggie meal, this is the first time I've tried branching off from that. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bug before making a fool of myself by going to the bug tracker and reporting it. I've put a few bug reports on the Github bug tracker before, so I'm familiar with that process.
