Ven Posted November 25, 2024 Report Posted November 25, 2024 (edited) It would be nice if there was possibility to determine multiple separated spawnpoints that would be located far between each other or in specific climatic zones i.e. first one in temperate climate, another one in the tropics and the last one in the taiga/tundra. Every time a new player log in he is being attached to one of that spawnpoints(randomly or by choice). So several groups of seraphs initially start in different conditions and have no possibility to meet and interact with each other directly except trading. I think that could become a valuable option for multiplayer, somebody would want to start as a nordic tribe and somebody could prefer palms and mangoes That would also allow players to choose own ingame difficulty level and start a separate settlements with roleplay and trading between them more seamlessly than if that was just 1 common spawn for everyone. Of course the amount and location of spawns should be configurable in the world settings, maybe with some commands to modify already existing worlds and to change player's spawns. Krougal Posted November 25, 2024 Report Posted November 25, 2024 It would take some reworking as the way it is now, you always spawn at 0, 0 so the climate bands are actually shifted North or South to accomodate your selection. Obviously this won't work for MP.
LadyWYT Posted November 26, 2024 Report Posted November 26, 2024 It would be nice, but I think it's just as easily handled by admins on a server, via commands. For a singleplayer world there's no point, as there's already an option to change your starting climate.
Thorfinn Posted November 27, 2024 Report Posted November 27, 2024 Good idea for when servers start getting filled up. The sites are named for the founder of the site. You are given a list of existing settlements to choose from, or you can forge out and create a new settlement. Maybe once you hit iron, you can opt to have your settlement listed? Still doesn't help with story locations being one-shots, but that's the problem with having story locations.

I'm starting up a server and looked thru the player commands and didn't see anything relating to spawn point. How do I accomplish this via commands or otherwise? Do I need players to initially spawn beforehand so the server knows they exist?

Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your question; I play singleplayer almost exclusively. The one thing I can think of is that there is a command you can use to teleport a target to a particular set of coordinates, provided you have permission to use server commands, but there's probably also an easier method to get players where they need to go. If nothing else, you could run around as an admin and set waypoints at locations you want to teleport targets to prior to letting any other players join. Someone who has experience running Vintage Story servers will probably have a better answer. As for commands, you can find them listed here: https://wiki.vintagestory.at/List_of_server_commands
