Craftcoat Posted December 10, 2024 Report Posted December 10, 2024 It would be usefull to be able to ask a trader for the location of one or two of their colleagues that specialize in a different type of goods (they wont reveal the position of a rival) wich then could get marked as a rough area on the players map. 1
Echo Weaver Posted December 10, 2024 Report Posted December 10, 2024 I really like this idea. It could be a vague direction, like they heard someone traveling X direction, or even toward X landmark or type of terrain. 2
Thorfinn Posted December 10, 2024 Report Posted December 10, 2024 I'm OK with the "a couple days to the northwest" version. If the game had sufficient AI to recognize what a landmark is, and give them procedurally determined names, better. I do not like the idea of traders marking up your map with approximate locations. If one uses a map, it's already pretty easy to guess where other traders are. Whither exploration? The game is more about the journey than the destination. 1
LadyWYT Posted December 10, 2024 Report Posted December 10, 2024 I disagree, for two main reasons: 1. Traders already have a spawn pattern that's fairly easy to learn once you've found several. There tends to be one every several chunks or so, and you'll be needing to do quite a bit of exploring anyway for various resources and whatnot. If you play with true map colors turned on, they're also a lot easier to spot. In any case, it's pretty simple to run around until you find the type you're looking for. 2. STORY/LORE CONTENT SPOILERS! Spoiler The village seems to be set up as a trading hub, and I'm pretty sure that players are expected to spend quite a bit of time here. Some of the services and goods they offer are unique to that location, but there are other things they sell that can also be acquired from traders. I will also note that a camp of traders was set up outside the village too, but I'm not sure if this was intentional generation, or just very good RNG. 1 hour ago, Thorfinn said: The game is more about the journey than the destination. This too. Keeping in mind that traders don't always have what you want for sale, and don't always buy what you're looking to sell. If there aren't any deals that you want to strike with them at that moment, you'll need to leave and come back later, most likely after a few days. In that time, you could easily go visit another trader who might have better offers, and with the new travel options that have been added it's also easier to travel around too. 2
