No antlers?

For some reason the deer aren't dropping antlers, despite it being wintertime and the males having obvious home decorations on their heads. Did the drop rate get changed, is it bugged, or did I just manage to break something when I last messed with mods back in 1.19? I'm not playing with any mods since updating to the pre-release. I know I was using the deer mod from Fauna of the Stone Age back on 1.19, and that was known to overwrite the vanilla deer and cause them to not drop antlers. However, I would have thought that disabling the mods and installing the pre-release would have overwritten any files that were affected by mods. Essentially I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues with it or has better ideas of a fix, before I go backing up my worlds and doing a complete reinstall.

I dont know if 1.20 changed anything in that matter but playing 19.8 on vanilla (no mods at all) i killed plenty of goats with horns and only 1 actually dropped the horns - so I would guess its not a guaranteed drop.

Hmmmmm...maybe I should make a better effort to depopulate the countryside of antlered creatures and see if it just got changed to a low droprate. I know that previously, I was always getting the antlers/horns, and ended up having more sets than I knew what to do with. So it's entirely possible the droprate was changed to make them more of a trophy item.

I've never paid too much attention to the antlers, so I wouldn't be able to tell the difference, but judging from the deer file it looks like the growth time has more than doubled. That might be the reason. At least that seems to be the only difference.

I did see a note on the wiki that indicated antlers will shed after full growth, and can be picked up by the player. I don't recall that being a thing when 1.19 originally launched, so I'm also wondering if that's what might have changed in one of the patches. IE, players are supposed to find shed antlers to display, as a nifty little treasure item, instead of getting a pair of antlers every time they shoot a male deer(which is honestly pretty easy).

Either way I just want my antlers to decorate with. 😂 I could just cheat some in, of course, but it's a lot more fun to hunt them down...plus I typically need the meat anyway.

Just judging by the descriptions, sounds like the default is they don't start growing until July, don't complete their growth until mid January, and won't shed until mid March. And they are gone by the first of April.

So I think I figured it out. It wasn't a mod messing anything up, as I backed up my saves and started over with a fresh install. It seems the antler/horn mechanics have changed just a bit sometime between now and 1.19's first release, probably to make them more of a trophy item than things you can get several chests full of from wiping out the local wildlife. Come springtime in game I was able to pick up a set of shed moose antlers, so I now have a nice home decoration! In regards to horns, I'm assuming it's like @Grummsh noted earlier--a much rarer drop from hunting, and I assume that probably applies to antlers as well.

I've got several bucks cornered in my barn and they still haven't shed their antlers. It's April 8th. Snow is still on the ground though and it just keeps snowing. 3520 110 -755. Not sure if my area makes a difference.
