Space6011 Posted February 14, 2025 Report Posted February 14, 2025 Does any one know if actual piles of coal (brown, black, anthracite, and charcoal) have different burn times? I know that the coal burn time when used in fire places and (maybe) forges reflect the burn time on the stat cards, but I put coke, brown coal, and black coal next to each other on the ground and they all seemed to burn for the same amount of time. I then tested charcoal on the ground and it burned for way longer than the 40s on the stat card. I just want to know if this is a known thing before I spend more time investigating.
cosmobeau Posted March 1, 2025 Report Posted March 1, 2025 Coal temps & burn times: https://wiki.vintagestory.at/Coal Fuel - Temp C° - Duration (seconds) Firewood 700 - 24 Peat 900 - 25 Brown coal 1100 - 77 Black coal 1200 - 84 Anthracite 1200 - 196 Charcoal 1300 - 40 Coke 1350 - 40
Space6011 Posted March 3, 2025 Author Report Posted March 3, 2025 Thanks, but that doesn't really answer my question. I already stated I was aware of the fuel burn times as they are stated on the item. It is when you put them into piles and light them that you get an odd result.
Giciel Posted March 3, 2025 Report Posted March 3, 2025 I have 0 idea, never heard of thought coals burn time when put on the ground. You know what, maybe you should investigate. Redo the test with all coals and see (I would gladly do it but I'm not on my pc).
beeamo Posted March 3, 2025 Report Posted March 3, 2025 They all burn for roughly 5 minutes, with a margin of of a +/- a few seconds. I just tested it. 1
Maelstrom Posted March 5, 2025 Report Posted March 5, 2025 That coincides with my experience with forges. Brown coal burns just as quickly as charcoal in a forge despite taking almost twice as long in the firepit smelting ore.
